Here’s a breakdown of the best exfoliating options based on different skin types:
1. Oily & Acne-Prone Skin
Best Exfoliants:
* Salicylic Acid (BHA): A beta-hydroxy acid that penetrates deep into pores to clear excess oil and prevent breakouts.
* Clay-based Exfoliants: Helps absorb oil and gently exfoliate without over-stripping.
Why: Oily and acne-prone skin benefits from BHAs as they help unclog pores, reduce oil, and prevent acne. Clay-based exfoliants help manage oil production.
Tip: Use 2-3 times a week to control oil and reduce the risk of breakouts.
2. Dry & Dehydrated Skin
Best Exfoliants:
* Lactic Acid (AHA): A gentle alpha hydroxy acid that exfoliates while also hydrating the skin.
* Enzyme-based Exfoliants: Natural fruit enzymes (like pumpkin or papaya) break down dead skin cells without harsh scrubbing.
Why: Dry skin needs gentle exfoliation to remove flaky dead cells, but it’s important to keep moisture intact. Lactic acid and enzymes hydrate while exfoliating.
Tip: Exfoliate 1-2 times a week to avoid over-drying the skin.
3. Combination Skin
Best Exfoliants:
* Glycolic Acid (AHA): Balances exfoliation across different areas of your face. Great for evening skin tone and texture.
* Dual Exfoliants (Physical + Chemical): Combination of gentle scrubs and AHAs/BHAs to target both oily and dry areas.
Why: Combination skin requires a balanced approach, using a mix of chemical and physical exfoliants to target oily areas without drying out the rest of your face.
Tip: Use glycolic acid 1-2 times a week and a gentle scrub in the oily T-zone as needed.
4. Sensitive Skin
Best Exfoliants:
* Mandelic Acid (AHA): A milder exfoliant that causes less irritation than other acids.
* Gentle Enzyme Exfoliants: Papaya or pumpkin enzymes can be effective without irritating sensitive skin.
Why: Sensitive skin requires ultra-gentle exfoliants that remove dead cells without causing redness or irritation.
Tip: Start once a week, and avoid physical scrubs that can be too abrasive for sensitive skin.
5. Mature/Aging Skin
Best Exfoliants:
* Retinoids: Encourages cell turnover and reduces fine lines and wrinkles.
* Glycolic Acid (AHA): Helps with uneven skin texture and hyperpigmentation.
Why: Mature skin benefits from chemical exfoliants like glycolic acid and retinoids that promote skin renewal and tackle signs of aging without drying the skin.
Tip: Exfoliate 1-2 times a week, and always follow up with moisturizing and sun protection.
Final Tip:
Always follow up with hydration and SPF after exfoliating to protect your fresh skin and prevent damage!

I just recently discovered this beauty of a face mask in the skin care line that I use - the Green Tea and Blue Algae Soothing Oat Mask! Yes it is BLUE! This face mask is a gem. Beautiful for reactive rosecea skin, fantastic antioxidant for rejuvenating all skin types. The Colloidal oats are rich in vitamins, minerals and essential fats. It brightens the skin and leaves you with a glowing face. Perfect for an antioxidant and anti-aging facial.

Healthy glowing skin during a change of season, and especially changing into a cooler season, requires some extra TLC. Try more hydration, maybe a thicker moisturizer, as well as exfoliating more often to smooth out the surface of the skin an remove the dry dead skin cell that accumulate.
Have a wonderful day!
Reminder to hydrate your skin. This helps to diminish fine lines and give you a healthy glow.
Fall facial specials a fantastic way to step up your skin care/self care!
I love summer time and all that it has to offer us, with its warm days and pretty flowers. It is always a bit sad when the days become shorter and the hot weather becomes cooler, the whisper of autumn arriving on our lips. Luckily, I also love fall with its cool breezes and softer colours. I love to cozy up in sweaters and blankets once again. The change of season tends to bring dryness and dullness to my skin so I spend time rehydrating and renourishing my face in the first few weeks of September. Lots of exfoliating and deeply revitalizing masques with plenty of vitamins and minerals!
Facial special this month so you can revitalize big time this month.
