Yes! This is so great to keep in mind when developing Physio treatment plans too. So often patients don’t end up doing their exercises because they missed a day, or couldn’t do all of them, but it’s all about finding that sweet spot!
Can we get a double tap if you feel like you're constantly swinging between doing ALL THE THINGS or NOTHING AT ALL?
Been there, done that.
The result of all-or-nothing thinking is all-or-nothing behaviors.
On one end of the spectrum that means not doing anything (because it it's not perfect, why bother?), so accomplishing nothing. On the other end of the spectrum we have full-tilt, change all the things, get dramatic results that can't be sustained so ultimately sliding backwards.... Also accomplishing nothing year after year.
(Um, hello this is every dieters life. Awkward. 😬)
The answer?
Find the Sweet Spot of Change. Not too hard, not too easy, juuu-uuust right. Moving forward imperfectly at a rate you can cope with = steady, long-term progress.
Mind blown? There's more a-ha moments to be had in our FREE live workshop, Chaos To Control: The key to losing weight and keeping it off! Click the link to register >>> https://www.hhhmprograms.com/chaostocontrol
(Shout out to one of our favorite dudes, who is the mastermind of the "Sweet Spot" concept!)
We are still offering Telehealth as an option too!

Fresh basil for days!! 🧂
Excess salt intake can lead to water retention, and this extra fluid can put added stress on already achy joints. Using fresh herbs is a great way to replace extra salt, while not sacrificing flavour!!
Be flexible...🧘🏼♀️ Rolling out my mat used to be highly conditional. Usually within the walls of a studio, when I had at least an hour of time, with a teacher whose voice was just soothing enough, and there were no other distractions to pull me off of my mat.
When I say be flexible, what I am referring to is dropping these conditions. My new mantra is anytime, anywhere. Sometimes I practice first thing in the morning, or right before bed. Sometimes I am alone, other times I have a toddler crawling all over me. Sometimes I have a teacher guiding me, and sometimes I just move my body.
🎶I want to ride my bicycle🎶
🎶I want to ride my bike🎶
The evidence in support of cycling exercise for people with knee injuries and arthritis is well-documented. On these sunny days, it’s nice to take a load off and head out on your local trails for a ride! Don’t forget your helmet🚴♀️
Now that we are welcoming people back into the clinic we are encouraging the use of masks. However, wearing a mask is most effective when worn correctly. This infographic developed by the WHO is a great quick guide that is easy to follow. 😷
Clamshells. Take ‘em or leave ‘em?
I’m referring to the exercise here, not actual clamshells. This popular exercise is one that physios love to give to develop glute strength, but for several reasons I’ve been questioning it lately.
Turns out I was right to question the clamshell. Recent evidence indicates that there are better alternatives that maximize glute recruitment. These include single leg bridges, single leg squats and single leg deadlifts, to name a few.

I took some much needed time to unplug this weekend. I focussed on being present with my family, getting lots of play and rest and limiting screen time. I’m feeling refreshed and ready to start a new week!
Policies and procedures made fun with infographics!
Practicing my eyebrow choreography. Can you tell what faces I’m making?!
We look forward to inviting our patients back into the clinic and navigating our “new normal”
There’s no place like home 🥎
If you’ve ever trained for a running event, you know that Sundays are for long, slow runs.🏃♀️ I am not back to any real “long” distances yet, but I like to take the long, slow approach to all my Sunday activities. Breakfast, groceries, meal prep, slow roasting or simmering etc.
Hope you are enjoying your Sunday!

A little light reading to help inform our policies and procedures as we move into our “new normal”
Dr. Bonnie Henry, thank you for guiding us through this pandemic. You are calm, cautious, measured and oh so real!
Steaming hot coffee. Sunshine. Birds chirping. Hummingbirds humming. Baby sleeping in. List making... These are some of my favourite things! I’m so grateful I had a few minutes this morning to get focused. Great way to kick off a long weekend!
“Learn to do things in the rain”💦 These were the wise words of wisdom my Dad shared with me when we moved to a temperate rainforest. It’s true. You can’t let the rain stop you from getting out and doing what you love. Turns out learning to do things in the rain is full of fun!💦
Let this happy little snail serve as a gentle reminder to go slow! 🐌
A phrase I use often with patients is avoid doing “too much too soon”. Regardless of whether you are recovering from an injury, adopting a new exercise routine or trying to lose weight, this phrase is a good reminder that slow and steady wins the race!!🐌
Drop it like a squat! 🏋️♀️
An UNLOADED deep squat to be specific. This position takes the hips, knees and ankles into their end ranges. The movement and compression involved helps to lubricate the joints. Similar to squeezing a wet sponge to bring water to the surface. 🧽
Aim for 5-10 reps a few times throughout the day. Use a sturdy chair to hold onto for assistance, if needed. If you have pain or limited joint mobility you may need an individualized modification. ***Important: This is a mobility exercise or position of play, it is NOT meant for lifting. That’s a different type of deep squat for a different day.
Jellyfish don’t have brains!
How about that for a random Friday fact!? Isn’t nature fascinating...
Physiotherapy provided on a Telehealth platform is delivering positive patient outcomes! This pyramid, created by , explains why.
Unfortunately, when people think about what a Physiotherapist does, they only see the tip of this iceberg.
The real, long-term results come from foundational interventions of education, reassurance, therapeutic exercise and progressive overloading. The hands-on treatment and other modalities are more like compliments to this solid foundation.
What a beautiful evening for a run! 🌚
Hard to capture the true beauty of this full Moon. Apparently, the Flower Moon for the month of May. Aptly named I think, considering how pretty it looked tonight. 🌚
Thanks for the physical distance run .howard.5 🌚
