ODP Match Review: Challengers vs Titans

The Challengers defeated the Titans today. After winning the toss, the Titans chose to bat first, but the Challengers' spinners worked their magic again, even without their top wicket-taker, Shujja. Yatin Patel stepped up and bowled out four batters for 11 runs, with strong support from Ateeq Rehman, Yaseen Khan, and Vijay Dhamelia, who each took one wicket. Ahsan Raza and Mohsin Azmat added to the pressure with their pace attack, taking two and one wicket respectively. Yatin Patel was named Player of the Match.

Challengers had a goal to chase the runs as quick as possible to improve their run rate.
With this goal, their opener, Faraz Siddiqui led the charge with an explosive unbeaten 51 off 35 balls, including four massive sixes. Alam Khan played a steady innings, adding 34 not out. The Challengers reached the target in 14.1 overs, boosting their run rate.

With this win, the Challengers move up to #4 on the table. Their morale is high after another big-margin victory, and they are looking forward to winning their last game on Aug31 to secure a spot in the finals.

ODP Match Review: Challengers vs Armours

The Challengers faced a tough game on what was supposed to be a batting-friendly pitch but only managed to score 112 runs. Despite the low total, the Challengers' spin attack turned the game into a thrilling contest. At one point, Armours needed only 52 runs with all 10 wickets in hand and plenty of overs left. However, the Challengers' spinners brought them back into the game, taking 8 wickets and creating a nail-biting finish.

Shujja led the spin attack with outstanding figures of 5 for 24, supported by Yaseen Khan with 2 for 18, and Attiq Rehman chipping in with 1 for 19. The Challengers' fielding was also top-notch, as they took 5 catches, just like in the previous game. Unfortunately, when Armours needed 8 runs with 2 wickets remaining, an easy catch was dropped, allowing the 9th batter to secure the win for Armours.

Despite the loss, the Challengers are still in the race for the top 2 spots and are determined to win their last two games.

Thank you S.Noman Ul Haq for giving a tour of the Victoria Park cricket pitch , where cricket has been played since 1911!
It was also great to chat with the Vice President of Cricket Canada and President of Edmonton Cricket Leage(EDCL), Mr. Gurdeep Klair and snap a few pictures.
During our chat, discovered we share the same passion for cricket and even the same club name, Challengers.

T20 Game Review: Challengers vs Weyburn Kings

The Regina Challengers ended their T20 season with a win against the Weyburn Kings. Weyburn won the toss and chose to bat, but Rajat Attri's pace attack and the Challengers' magical spin bowled them out for under 100 runs. Shujjauddin took 3 wickets, Yaseen 2, Rajat 2, Abdul Rehman 1, and Attiq Rehman 1. Faraz was the player of the match.

Chasing 93 runs, Faraz opened with a blistering 56 not out from 41 balls, hitting 10 fours and 1 six. Gurvinder Bains added a quick 27 off 15 balls with 3 huge sixes.

Now, the Challengers will focus on planning and winning their remaining 4 ODP games

Match Summary: Regina Challengers vs. Rebels (ODP)

In a thrilling ODP match, Regina Challengers emerged victorious over Rebels by 5 wickets. The game started strong for Challengers with pace bowlers Irfan Sabir and Rajat Attri delivering a formidable opening attack. This set the stage for their spinners – Shujjauddin, Yaseen Khan, Attiq Rehman, Tanzeel Khan, and Vijay Dhamelia – to weave their spin magic, taking wickets at regular intervals and keeping the Rebels' scoring in check.

Chasing a challenging target, Regina Challengers found themselves in a tough position at 26/3 after 13 overs. However, a brilliant 103-run partnership between Alam Khan, who remained unbeaten on 69, and Attiq Rehman, who contributed a solid 42, turned the tide in their favor. Vijay Dhamelia played a crucial role in the end, showcasing focus and quick thinking, especially in the final stretch where every run mattered.

The match ended with Alam and Vijay's strategic running between the wickets, securing vital singles and doubles in the last two overs to clinch the victory. Attiq Rehman was named Player of the Match for his all-round performance with the bat, ball, and in the field. This collective effort, with significant contributions from every player, ensured a memorable win for Regina Challengers.

Challengers look forward to carrying this momentum into their remaining four ODP games, aiming for continued improvement and success.

ODP Game #4 Review The Challengers defeated the Risers by 4 wickets.

The Risers won the toss and chose to bat first. The Challengers' bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals, preventing the Risers' batsmen from settling. At one point, the Risers were at 69 runs for 8 wickets. It seemed like the Challengers might bowl them out for under 100 runs, but the last two batsmen managed to push the score to 118. The pace bowler Hasin was the star of the bowling unit, taking 4 wickets, including 2 wickets in his first two balls with his in and outswing bowling. The Challengers' spinner Yaseen took 3 wickets, while Sajid, Raees, and Ahmad took 1 wicket each.

The Challengers' chase began with a quick 23 runs scored in the first 3 overs. However, they faced a batting collapse and were 40-4 wickets down. Yaseen Khan and Sajid Kotwal then formed a solid partnership of 49 runs, which was much needed. Sajid emerged as the batting hero, scoring an unbeaten 39 runs, including 5 boundaries, and led the Challengers to victory. Sharfuddin Khan contributed 19 runs, while Yaseen and Arsalan scored 17 runs each.

The Challengers' play next against Rebels on Saturday, August 19th.

ODP Game #2: In a thrilling 40-over cricket match, Challengers and Titans tied the game.

Titans batted first but struggled, getting bowled out for 134 runs in 34 overs. Yaseen Khan and Ateeq Rehman took 3 wickets each, while Mohsin Butt and Rayyan G***a took 2 wickets each for Challengers.

Challengers' batting didn't fare much better as Titans' bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals, preventing them from scoring big runs. At one point, it seemed like Challengers would win, but Titans' bowlers continued their attacking approach.

The match swung in Titans' favor when they dismissed the 9th batsman, with Challengers needing just 11 runs to win. However, Challengers' batsmen Noufil Siddiqui and Rayyan G***a stepped up and secured the tie for their team.

Challengers will use this experience to work on their batting and prepare a solid game plan for their upcoming match against Fire on August 7.
