My tomatoes grow wild!
Haven't posted in a long time. Growing peppers and tomatoes mostly this year as I decided to go back to school. These cute peppers are called Candy acne Red Sweet chili. They are super neat and even the leaves have white stripes.
Got a second dog today. Her name is Kluane
I cleaned out tomato plants and cucumbers this weekend. Here's a little video about one of the branches that rooted into the ground.
Beautiful sunflower arrangement from the sunflowers I grew. End of a gardening season.
Chopping lots and lots of beets for beet borscht. I plan on trying my pressure canner for the first time today.
I have never ever seen a cicumber like this. It's two cucumbers, fused in the middle. It only has one vine connection so I assume it's from one flower, but wow!
A picture of my harvest so far. If enough cherry tomatoes ripen over the next day or so I am going to try canning them all together whole. The cucumbers are becoming either refrigerator pickles or bread and butter or even perhaps sandwich slices for my husband's Nashville hot chicken sandwiches that he cooks! And one little pepper to chare eith the kids.
Finally turning red! Can't wait for more to follow suit.
Even growing these babies wild, I sure am getting loads of tomatoes. This is just one branch of many like this.
Cutting back tomato feelers will help the plant focus more on growing the fruit than growing greenery. At this point in the summer I want the fruit that is there to grow rather than more feelers that will produce more flowers. Tomatoes will just take too long to fully mature at this point.
Lots more beautiful little plants. Ignore those big patches of weeds. We got a lot of tree seeds blown into our garden during the spring and so they start germinating around now.
So my tomatoes and cucumber side of the garden may slightly be out of control lol But heaps of tomatoes in there
I've got my kids out helping out with planting our beans and peas. A little late in the season, but better late than never!
All the tomatoes so far that I found in my tomato forest
Tomato flowers!
These lovely white blooms of the may tree tell its finally summer! The fragrance is so lovely!
It amazes me how they can produce a plant that actually smells like chocolate mint. Kids said it smells like girl guide thin mint cookies and they aren't wrong. We also saw orange mint that had a citrus undertone and a grapefruit one which really smelled like grapefruit!
Today I will be moving three yards of dirt from there to into the gardens after pulling the last of the dandelions out. It is a mix soil of screened soil along with aged manure from our local landscaping supplier. I have grown some beautiful tomatoes in the soil from them over the last couple years.
Another update. I would say weekly, but alas it's been a couple weeks. Some of the plants have kinda stalled, but some of the ones I transplanted into bigger containers had really big roots underneath the dirt and are already starting to get a bit bigger.
Those tomato plants are super exciting for me! They are getting bigger and bigger every day. Last year I did not get nice, healthy ones like this from seed.
Not sure when marigolds get their flower bud. Hoping someday. Last year's never blossomed.
Transplanting my Big Thai peppers and look at those strong, healthy roots. Super proud of them.
These are sure turning out beautiful.
Can't wait to get these planted again this summer. These sunflowers were huge and bees and butterflies loved them so much. Of course once there were seeds a squirrel made off with a whole head. Chewed it right off the stem.
Rosemary is doing well. You can see the smooth, round leaves. That little bit of fuzz on the leaves is so nice. Already very fragrant when you touch it too.
The parsley has their distinct leaf pattern now. Might be an herbs sharing kind of day today as every herbal seems to be doing well... except the mint. Of course. Need that to grow better to add to the Indian food I cook.
The cabbage plants are working hard. I have 10 plants and hoping for at least a couple big cabbages.
Maybe some will be saurkraut, some will definitely become borscht and maybe just some lovely fried cab age. Mmmmm. Yummy!
Didn't forget the weekly update. Things are growing well. One teeny tiny mint did end up germinating. Kinda funny since I pla Ted it a long time ago.
Have transplanted some celery to test how well it would transplant. Going to probably move more over.
Tomatoes are going to be transplanted this week so next week that will be different.
A little plant tour. I have planted so many things, but I am pretty proud of the broccoli 🥦 since it's the first time ever growing broccoli.
Once a week I will do a plant tour as we go through the spring starts to planting in the ground and to harvesting in the fall. It's really exciting wat hang how fast everything grows once it decides to start.
