This year the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Brake Safety Week is scheduled to take place from August 20th – 26th with a focus on brake linings and pads. During this time, expect an increased presence of law enforcement with regular checks being performed across North America.

To support our drivers and minimize inspection violations, we will be performing our own yard inspections which are set to begin on August 17th.

Do you like football and friendly competition with your co-workers? If that sounds like you, you might be interested in the Siemens NFL Draft!

Siemens Transportation Group is excited to announce its first Pick'em style NFL Draft! In this version of Pick'em, you make your predictions based on the actual outcomes of the weekend's games. For instance, suppose you forecast that Seattle will defeat San Francisco. You are accurate, as long as Seattle wins the game.

If you want to participate, you must enter the Draft by September 1st, 2023. The Pick'em pool will open on September 5th, and you’ll need to enter your pick by 4:30pm on September 7th, the first day of the NFL season. All employees and contractors are eligible to participate.

Operation Safe Driver Week is scheduled to begin next Sunday, July 9th.

During this time, an increased law enforcement presence will be on roadways looking for commercial motor vehicle drivers engaging in risky driving behaviours.

From June 27th – August 7th we are holding our annual Driver Photo Contest!

With Drivers all across Canada and the U.S., we know you’ve seen it all. Now it’s your chance to share the best sights in every city and along every highway!

How it works:
1. Drivers interested in the contest can post their favourite photos of their company branded truck to their page and tag the company they work for. Alternatively, drivers can e-mail their photos directly to the Marketing Department.
2. Photos will be shared to the company pages where everyone can view and like the photos.
3. When the contest closes, a survey will be sent out so that people can view all of the photo submissions and vote for their favourite.
4. Photos must meet the following criteria to be considered:
- Photos must contain Siemens branding (via our equipment, branches, apparel, or other means)
- Photos must be appropriate, pleasant, and must not be derogatory towards the company
- Creative, vibrant, and “fun” photos will be preferred

2023 CVSA Roadcheck Event

This year’s International Roadcheck event is scheduled to run from May 16th – 18th. The focus for this year’s roadcheck will be on anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and proper cargo securement on a commercial motor vehicle. During the roadcheck, drivers should be ready to pass a complete Level 1 inspection. To support our drivers and minimize inspection violations, we will be performing our own yard inspections which are set to begin on Thursday, May 11th and run until May 18th.

During inspection of anti-lock braking systems, inspectors will do the following:
• Determine whether ABS is required on the vehicle
• Ensure ABS lamp cycles on and off for all ABS-required vehicles
• Check for indications of ABS malfunction

During inspection of cargo securement, inspectors will do the following:
• Ensure spare tires, cargo, and dunnage are secured
• Confirm there are enough tiedowns for the items being transported
• Check for defective securement devices
• Inspect anchor points and structures for damage
• Verify commodity-specific cargo is secured in accordance with the regulations
*Please note, with the focus on cargo securement, officers have the right to break the seal on the trailers (if the seal is broken it will be resealed and recorded on the paperwork)

Monday April 17th is the Last Day for NHL Playoff Draft Submissions
Reminder: Draft submission for this year’s NHL Hockey Playoff Draft must be submitted to your Supervisor/Manager by Monday April 17th 1:00pm CST. Please contact your Supervisor/Manager for rules and instructions how to enter into the Draft.

Confined Space Incidents are one of the most common at-fault collisions that Professional Drivers face. These incidents can seem inexpensive at first but are often very costly when considering indirect costs like vehicle downtime and accident claims.
Ensure you are always aware of your surroundings and do not rush maneuvers when in confined spaces.

Safety Reminder: Backing accidents are one of the most common accidents in the industry. Always make sure you have clearance to avoid hitting anything while backing up. If you're not sure, remember your GOAL (Get Out And Look).
