Candle Season is upon us … when do you start using candles? I personally like burning scented candles all year long (unless it’s 30 degrees outside like a lot of days this summer 🤪), but I really enjoy it in September when the nights are cooler and ‘sadly’ the days begin to shorten even quicker.

Our Crossroads candle line is wonderfully scented and we have a nice variety of scents.

Great option for an entry or sofa table … painted in Silk Anchor on top and Dixie Belle Sawmill Gravy with Vintage Pain dark brown wax on the base. I used our IOD Bella Stamp to add some detail to the top in DIY Gold Patina. Dimensions 48” long x 18” deep x 30” high. Available now on our website.

This is a lovely solid piece with great storage … painted in our Dixie Belle Spanish Moss to complement the beautiful IOD transfer “Elysium”. I added some WoodUbend to the top two drawers and door and new hardware, which I embellished with a mix of our Posh Chalk pigments. Sealed with our Vintage Paint Light Brown Wax. Dimensions 34” wide x 19” deep x 46” high. Available now on our website.

This sideboard has such gorgeous detail and the paint and wax really accentuates that now. I chose one of my favourite colours … Dixie Belle Gravel Road, which was the perfect colour to go with the Decoupage paper (Neutral Flourishes from our Decoupage Queen line). I updated the original hardware, WoodUbend and trim pieces in our Posh Chalk Byzantine Gold; then sealed with Dixie Belle black wax. The top was stained with our Dixie Belle No Pain Gel Stain in walnut, espresso and colonial black. Dimensions 66” wide x 24” deep (at the centre) x 37” high. Available now on our website.

Beautiful and Functional … this cedar chest provides both storage and seating. Perfect for entry or bedroom. Painted in a blend of Dixie Belle chocolate, sandbar, burlap and sawmill gravy. Top was stained in walnut. The metallic high lites were achieved with a mix of Posh Chalk pigments. I sealed the body with our Vintage Paint Dark Brown Wax. Dimensions 44” wide x 20” deep x 21-1/2” high. Available now on our website.

Another custom piece heading to its home tomorrow … this was a fun one to do because I was able to use one of my favourite IOD transfers - “Wander” … thank you Eileen 🙏🏽🥰

Pictured with two different shelves this cabinet is one of my favourites … so much detail was accentuated with the paint. It was beautiful before, but had some wear and tear …
I base-coated with a layer of DIY Weathered Wood mixed with Salt Wash, then added some dry texture to the drawers, doors and top of the cabinet. The two colours I added after were a mix of paints from our Vintage Paint line. After sanding and distressing I added a stencil to the doors. Then I sealed everything with a mix of Vintage Paint light and dark brown waxes. I updated the original hardware with some metallic and also added that to some of the detailed areas of the cabinet. Then I went in with our Posh Chalk Dark Brown Patina Wax and added more depth to the recessed areas … I will talk about the shelves in a separate post …

This Sideboard and unique one-of-kind shelf make a good pairing …
The Sideboard was base coated with Clay Paint and Sea Spray texture medium, then painted in Umber from our Silk paint line. I replaced the hardware and embellished it with Belt Buckle as well as the trim on the sideboard. I applied the ‘Orleans’ transfer from Kaćha; then sealed everything with our Vintage Paint Dark Brown wax.
The shelf was made from vintage tin tiles and old metal corbels that we repurposed. The live edge top completes the piece. I used some texture medium and crackle on the metal pieces, then painted with Coffee Bean from our Dixie Belle paint line. I then used a mix of our Posh Chalk gold pigments to embellish the raised areas.

Words cannot express what my heart is feeling 💓. . . it has been a whirlwind of activity, since I made the announcement on January 1st about our storefront closing and Mabel and Martha’s going online. The love and support from our customers was way beyond what I had anticipated. My heart is sad, but also full of love 💕

Thank you to everyone – for the love and hugs, the cards and messages, the flowers, the gifts, the kind words, the tears and for your ongoing support. We have been very busy trying to organize everything and get our website up and running – which we had hoped to have ready before the storefront closed. But we want it to be a good representation of Mabel and Martha’s, and all good things take time.

We are now taking a short break to recharge and when we return we hope to have everything up and running.
