Photos from SAYY Academy's post 09/02/2024

Having direct communication with the parents is such a sweet privilege ❤️

After each class, parents receive videos, photos, class content AND personal feedback from the educator. We get to chat about progress, areas of improvement, small and large moments of success!

Thank goodness for technology!

Another day at SAYY!

We begin by mixing two groups to warm up, play improv games, and become more comfortable on stage. In this video, we are preparing for our Mid-Semester Suspenseful Presentation, where each student will present a three-minute spooky story accompanied by their hand-painted image.

Additionally, our Youth Group is learning their own suspenseful curriculum and getting ready to present at the semester's end!

Our 3- and 4-year-old students are working on their presentation introduction and speech etiquette. They are learning how to use a microphone, hold their paper, and introduce themselves and their work.

Do you think your child could use a little more creativity and confidence? Meet with our teachers and see the difference they can make in your child's life!

Another successful Summer Camp! 🎨 🎤 it's our favorite time of the year!

07/18/2024

In today's teacher interview, we discuss how a "talking class" shows progress and growth to the parents:

🟩WeChat Communication: Our main clientele are of Asian descent, and most families use WeChat as their preferred communication platform. Our teachers are trained to use this platform effectively, allowing parents to easily translate communications and receive photos and videos. These small pieces of documentation help us demonstrate the child's growth by comparing videos and class feedback over time.

🟢WhatsApp for Non-WeChat Users: For families who do not use WeChat, we utilize WhatsApp as a secondary communication platform. This allows for seamless chatting, photo, and video sharing for users who do not require language translation.

✒️Bi-Annual Reports: In addition to digital communications, we provide detailed reports twice a year—before summer and in winter. These reports offer a comprehensive overview of the child's development for the semester, providing tangible material that can be compared throughout the year.

✅️Important Note: When enrolling, please always check the photo consent box! It would be unfortunate to miss capturing and sharing these memorable moments during their time at SAYY Academy.🥰🥰

As parents, we play a pivotal role in shaping our children's development, especially when it comes to language acquisition.

For ESL students aged 2.5 to 3.5 years old, focusing on mouth movements is a key factor in enhancing their English learning experience. Mastering the intricacies of English pronunciation requires attention to specific mouth movements. This not only aids in articulation but also builds the foundation for effective communication.

When selecting ESL classes, prioritize those that incorporate interactive learning and mouth movement exercises. Additionally, seamlessly integrate language learning into daily routines through activities like singing songs and reading books aloud.

Encouragement and positive reinforcement are essential. Acknowledge your child's efforts and gently correct when needed. Creating a supportive environment fosters both confidence and a genuine love for language learning.

In these formative years, investing in your child's ESL journey by focusing on mouth movements is a small yet impactful step. Through interactive classes, daily activities, and positive encouragement, parents can nurture their child's language proficiency and set the stage for a fulfilling linguistic adventure.

1) Reading to your children exposes them to a variety of words, helping them discover new vocabulary and gain a better understanding of the world. As they listen, they become more aware of the different sounds in words, which is crucial for pronouncing words accurately. Additionally, through reading, kids learn about sentence structure and how to arrange words in the correct order.

Moreover, engaging in storytelling enhances their ability to narrate events and express ideas coherently. If you're concerned about teaching incorrectly or if English isn't your primary language, don't worry. The Richmond Public Library, along with many other libraries, organizes *FREE* reading events and story times for kids. These events provide a supportive environment for children's language development.

2)SAYY Academy is a local learning center dedicated to enhancing children's speech, pronunciation, and self-expression skills. Tailored for young learners, their formal lessons are both engaging and enjoyable. They incorporate activities like reading stories, playing games to build vocabulary, drawing to express ideas, and encouraging clear and confident opinions. Programs begin at age 2, offering an affordable option for weekly lessons that foster your child's language development.

3) Exploring the beach is not only incredibly enjoyable but also a *FREE* way to enhance speech sounds, conversation skills, and critical thinking in children. By mimicking the sounds of the waves and animals, building structures with beach driftwood, and discovering hidden treasures in the sand, there's endless conversation material. Beach exploration provides valuable opportunities for children to think critically and logically, forming opinions about how the world works and understanding our impact on the environment.

At SAYY Academy, we focus on how children are "Leaders or Followers" from a creative perspective.

You can begin by asking yourself, does my child repeat or parrot ideas? Do they have their own, unassisted opinion? Can they tell a story different from others?

As parents and educators, here is how you can spot signs if your child or student is a follower:

Copying Ideas: Notice if they frequently imitate others' concepts, opinions, and conclusions, relying on external inspiration rather than their own.

Repeating Stories: Observe if they often retell similar narratives from their friends, indicating a preference for imitation rather than originality.

Copying Opinions/Choices: Pay attention to whether they adopt others' views or preferences without independent thinking, even with simple things like food choices, favorite colors, or preferred activities.

Following in Play: Watch how they engage in playtime, and notice if they tend to follow others' directions without balancing independent decision-making or asserting their own ideas.

If you recognize these signs in your child or student, it may indicate that they are still developing their ability to think independently and draw their own conclusions. By the age of 4, children should have acquired all of the above skills: expressing their own opinions, generating original ideas, and having the confidence to showcase their abilities.

If you feel unsure about how to foster these skills, SAYY Academy is here to provide the best first step!

Photos from SAYY Academy's post 07/20/2023

It is crucial to help children develop logical connections and reasoning skills. By offering options and assisting them in extracting information, we can guide them to make logical connections and conclusions. Never allow them to dodge a question by saying "I don't know," but instead, guide them to think and find the answers.

Children may develop a habit of dodging questions in large group settings. Educators often lack the time to assist every child in finding the logic and reasoning behind a question, so they tend to skip over students who frequently say "I don't know" or simply stop asking them questions altogether! This can result in these children being overlooked or missing out on learning opportunities.

Small group interactions, qualified educators, and the right amount of patience are the perfect combination to correct this habit! Contact SAYY Academy, because..... You know.

If you have seen our videos, you know that our Public Speaking Program encourages children as young as FIVE years old to speak confidently, tell dynamic stories, and utilize vocal skills and body language to express themselves to the audience.

SAYY Academy, the Early Start to Public Speaking in Richmond, is now enrolling for the September to December semester!

Art is a very powerful took to help students express themselves. It gives them a chance to correct their ideas before expressing them verbally. Additionally, art teaches focus, dedication and delayed gratification. Lastly, many of SAYY Students are applying for private school this upcoming application season. Part of the assessment may include this skill set to be accepted.

Try asking your child, "Draw your backyard." If they are unable to identify objects and represent them by shapes and colour, SAYY's Creative Young program is a great place to start.

Books, Stories and Videos are a great way to promote English development, vocabulary and descriptive words. But did you know, talking about the images or the actions of the characters also develops logical and critical thinking skills.

"The Mermaid" can be found on Youtube, Amazon or at your local library. Read through with your child, and pause to ask them these questions to promote logical reasoning, and critical analysis of the images, details and behaviours.
