We lost a very close friend to not just me, but the whole shop the other day.

I was shaken to my core. I almost closed down for a couple days. I was and am devastated.

This gentleman was not ill. This was a sudden tragedy. I know full well many of my close friends are reeling hard from this one. took a couple days for me to process it.

It hurts. A lot. More than I honestly feel comfortable admitting.

Truthfully one of my closest friends.

He was there when we got this building to operate from, He spent weeks helping me reno and set up.
When I was in the coma, He was at my house. helping my wife and family.

This man was a king among men.

Simply one of the most solid humans you will ever come across.

It will be a very different experience to be me, without this friend. He meant that much to me, and the rest of my circle.

He was such a positive influence in my life, such a solid supporter of my business and growth. Someone whom I could call or text anytime for his opinion and thoughts on damn near anything.

He leaves many close friends. and an amazing daughter.

I really haven't had a decent opportunity to process. But I can tell you this, he would want us to pick up, carry on, and be the best we can be. He always had positive motivation, but often with a wry banter and gentle tease.

When you surround yourself with people that inspire you, you know you can always try to better yourself.

He genuinely inspired me.

He lifted my motivation and drive. I looked up to him. I valued him. and I respect him.

I will honor his memory by refocusing and pushing myself to be a better man, and to be a better community member, in any way I can.

You will forever be missed John. We all love you. and our hearts are breaking with your absence, but you will always be a part of my life, and I will find a way to fill my cup with wholesome good. It's what you would have wanted from me, as your friend.

You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere.

Why did you spill the coffee?

"Because someone bumped into me!!!"

Wrong answer.

You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup. Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea. Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out.

Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It's easy to fake it, until you get rattled.

So we have to ask ourselves... “what's in my cup?"

When life gets tough, what spills over? Joy, gratitude, peace and humility?

Anger, bitterness, victim mentality and quitting-tendencies?

Life provides the cup, YOU choose how to fill it.

Today let's work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation, resilience, positivity; and kindness, gentleness and love for others.

Checking out the students last production of The Lion King

Really wonderful show so far.

Intermission...

Anyone we know here?

Glad to see kids putting their efforts into such creativity. The sets, costumes, singing, everything... beyond expectations.

Nice work kids!

Doing my morning scrolling, and this came over my feed.

Thanks again, to our wonderful clients, I see we have been nominated in several categories.

We truly appreciate this. Thank you for the nominations.

Our goal is to try to give the very best service possible, and treat all our clients like friends and family.

I feel we do a pretty decent job, and manage to accomplish much more than most would expect with our available space and resources.

However I acknowledge there is always room for improvement. With unprecedented demand and ever increasing numbers of vehicles presented, some days we feel that if we could triple the size if the shop, and triple the staff, we still wouldn't be able to match demand.

Thank you for so many years of support!

Without You, there would be no Us!

Its pride month. and we support Pride and Nanaimo Pride Society wholeheartedly, and will post more as the month goes on. fully inclusive, we have been supportive of inclusivity and Pride from the very beginning. always will, always have.

It is also Men's Mental Health month.

As someone who has dealt with more than my fair share, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and stress, it hits home for me.

Some simple facts.

600,000 men a year
58,000 men a month
14,000 men a week
2,000 men a day
86 men an hour

Almost two men every minute take their own life due to their mental health.

June is men's mental health awareness month. If you need to talk, or someone to pray with you, or even just someone to hit up the gym with give me a DM.

Both issues are important. and both will be recognised here.

This is an extreme example,.. .but when we discuss "taper" on brake pads, its due to preventable reasons.
Usually either the brake pad is rusted into the bracket, or the caliper slide pin is seized.

And both of these scenarios are preventable with brake services.

In the effort to acknowledge pricing and costs as reasonably as we can, we haven't raised our price in four years for a front or rear brake service. Consistently been lower than industry average.

What is a brake service?

Its removal of calipers, pads and brackets, and we usually go further as well and remove rotor, clean rotor, hub surfaces, rotor mounting services, take any rust or corrosion ridge off rotor, clean the caliper bracket where the pad resides to clean bare metal, clean the hardware (clips, pins, boots etc) and buff the edges of the brake pad to clean road grime and brake dust buildup, lubricate caliper bracket, clips, and caliper slide pins, inspect rubber boots for any tears or damage,
That groove across the friction face? thats to allow hot braking gasses an escape route, and often is packed with brake dust and debris, so its cleaned out as well.
Then reassemble, clean wheel mounting surface, reinstall the wheel assembly, hand torque all fasteners. And then perform a quality control road test. We recommend annual or approximately every 20000 km to perform this service.

This $118 service is insurance towards avoiding brake repairs costing many many hundreds or even thousands dependent on complexity of vehicle and conditions on the rest of the braking system.

Servicing your brakes appropriately will prolong overall brake life. we often see people gain double or even longer life on a set of brakes, just by maintaining them.

While we are there, do not forget the brake fluid condition!

We don't just stand behind our brake work, I will confidently stand in front of it.
With repaired and properly serviced brakes, I know your car will stop!

A friend once told me you can have a group of 10 people. 1 is a bad apple. That bad apple can drag down the other 9, but that 9 most likely can not bring up that bad apple.

This goes for friends, workers, employees and family.

Do not be a bad apple today.

If your filter crushes like this when we have to break out a strap wrench because it won't come off by hand...

You may have been to a quick l**e...

It even says right on the filter, 3/4 to 1 turn after gasket contacts. Once this one broke and was moving, over three turns before gasket lifted from machined surface.

Bay doors open. Still working.

Clearly homeless addict walks in lot. Starts scoping cars. Walking up to and looking in windows

My son and I confront.

I yell at the guy get gone. Tell him we are covered with motion sensor cameras and 24 hour security that responds with trucks full of security within minutes.

Guy flakes it off. "Just looking at the cars you have for sale"

I AM NOT A SALES LOT. WE BOTH KNOW YOUR LIEING. GET GONE NOW!!!

Saunters off. Mumbling

Guess I will call RCMP and request additional patrols.

I will also be letting our good friends at District 69 security know.

To our good friends in the community, if you are driving by after hours tonight, and see any movement, please feel free to call RCMP and message me.

Appreciated.

Just an fy, all the garbage blowing around the street on townsite did NOT come from us. We watched a municipal recycling truck losing its load driving past. I picked a bunch up. But can't chase it all over in the wind.

I called it into the city of Nanaimo.

They are going to have to come clean up their mess. I simply don't have manpower or time, and I wouldn't ever allow that to come from us.

Northumberland to millstone.

A proper maintenance service is a lot more than an oil and filter change.

If you have a 39 dollar car, then maybe a 39 dollar oil change is all you need.

I said what I said.

leaked image of the 2025 4runner. I love it. who else is going to be or wants to call Paul DeBron , the most recommended toyota sales rep I know, to get their name on one?

If it isn't just some bait, this looks amazing. never know with "leaked" images.

Obviously we get in and out of cars all day every day.

Most often the stereo is on.

First thing I personally do every time is turn it off or volume down for the road test, so I can hear the vehicle better.

I am still entertained by the wide variety of audio our clients listen to. Some are local radio, probably the very most often heard is JRFM from Vancouver. (My base fall back station in my car when not using android audio) sometimes there are devices with audio books. (I pause those immediately so the client doesn't lose their place) cd's are probably dead last. Very rarely does it seem anyone is listening to a cd anymore. A few, but certainly not as common as it once was.

I personally love podcasts. I am kind of a nerd there I guess. I usually have auto shop management or industry podcasts. Sometimes diagnostic training podcasts. And over the last year... a LOT of woodworking or lathe turning podcasts.

I had a thought this morning. If only I were the proverbial fly on the wall, what would i hear in your vehicle? Music? Podcasts? Or silent?

Being who I am, I am very curious what podcasts I haven't heard of that may be cool. A buddy of mine has put me onto a couple that I've enjoyed a lot.

What's your podcast or listening pleasure in your truck or car? Is is radio or podcasts? If it's podcasts, drop the name and share. Maybe I will find a new favorite, maybe you will.

With such a variety of audio available to us.... what's your jam?

Just my rambling thoughts on my morning commute.... Happy Monday folks.

We admittedly are having staffing level and health/sickness issues. And even if we weren’t, we also are realistic to acknowledge no matter how well we are able to perform our duties, there is always room for improvement. Continually we strive to do a little better than the day before. But with challenges come doubt and anxiety about the perception of our services. Not to mention my own anxiety considering the history of the last year or so. So when I open my email, and see something like this, it brings me extreme satisfaction to know we have made a positive impact. Thank You all for your continued support, business and loyalty. From all of us, to all of you, please know we appreciate each and every client who allows us the opportunity to be their service provider.
