🎵Wonderful to see the Guelph Pipe Band represent at the World Pipe Band Championships. 🇨🇦 A 4th Place finish in 3A!

𝗞𝗲𝗻 𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿 (1947-2024) also known as "The Captain" was a legend in piping who had a profound impact on a great many lives (not least of which our Dunbar family.)

Ken had a 60+ year piping career. He was the winner of the North American Pipe Band Championships fifteen times with two bands: the The 78th Fraser Highlanders Pipe Band (1992-2002) and as Pipe Major of the Clan MacFarlane Pipe Band (1971 - 1987).

Ken was a proud member of the Piper's and Pipe Band Society of Ontario (PPBSO) since 1962 and was also a member of the Eastern US Pipe Band Association (EUSPBA Mid-Atlantic Branch). In 1984/85 he was admitted to the panel of Adjudicators for both of these organizations.

Since 2005, he had been on the panel of the RSPBA - The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA) as an international piping adjudicator.

Originally taught by Richard MacPherson, brother of Hugh MacPherson, the Edinburgh Highland Outfitter, he continued his studies under double Gold Medalist Pipe Major John Wilson, of Edinburgh and Toronto, through the 1960's.

During the 1980's and early 1990's he was a managing partner in the bagpipe-making firm of Dunbar-Eller, Ltd, presently Dunbar Bagpipes.

Ken judged the Australian, European and World Championships (2012); the New Zealand, North American and World Championships in 2013, the Scottish and World Championships in 2014, the World Championships, 2015, the New Zealand Nationals in 2016, the Scottish and World's Championships in 2017, the World's in 2018. Most recently, 2019, he judged the Scottish and the World's Championship for the RSPBA.

“The Captain” was beloved by many and will be sorely missed. Condolences to the family and God speed Ken.

🎉 Stephanie Allen, self-proclaimed “bagpiping chick and museum nerd” here enjoying a great weekend of piping with her nephew (and a set of Dunbar Bagpipes) at the PPBSO Western Branch’s Kiwanis Indoor Contest.

They fared well in their respective contests (1 gold🥇, 2 silver🥈🥈and 1 bronze🥉between them) and then a workshop and concert with the amazing Fred Morrison! Now that’s a weekend!

♫ 𝗝𝗲𝗳𝗳 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 from Maine has owned a set of “wonderful” poly #𝗗𝘂𝗻𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗕𝗮𝗴𝗽𝗶𝗽𝗲𝘀 for almost two decades. This picture is the last time Jeff played his bagpipes at the New England Vietnam Vet's dinner (in March 2023). Before retirement, he played G1 with this set with both the WUSPBA and the EUSPBA.

His Dunbar’s have been proudly played for his fellow Vietnam Vets at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, onboard the USS Constitution, and at over three-hundred weddings and funerals in temperatures ranging from a blistering 104°F (40°C) down to a frigid 15°F (-9°C). Kudos Jeff and thanks for sharing!
