Elgin Ontario Health Team Working together for a healthier Elgin.
With summer officially here, thanks to the team at Southwestern Public Health for keeping an eye on water quality levels as we hit the beaches. ๐๐ฆ
Planning a beach day? Check our Beach Water Testing results before you take a dip at www.swpublichealth.ca/beaches.
We update beach water results weekly until Labour Day weekend.
Here is what the results mean:
โ
Green means the most recent water sample did not show harmful levels of bacteria. However, our samples are reported weekly -- weather or other factors may have changed the water quality since then.
๐ Red means an advisory is in place and swimming is not recommended.
โ Closed means the beach is closed (rare).
โBlank means there is no sample to report.
๐งกโจ Join us in celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day! Today, we honour and recognize the cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Mรฉtis peoples across Canada.
Our special artwork beautifully illustrates this day: an eagle representing First Nations, a narwhal representing Inuit, and a violin representing Mรฉtis. These symbols are arranged around the date "June 21" and are surrounded by vibrant, multicoloured smoke, symbolizing Indigenous traditions, spirituality, inclusion, and diversity. ๐ฟ๐
ElginOHT community member, Karen Palmer co-facilitated a session yesterday focused on helping caregivers understand online health resources. Southwestern Public Health is urging parents and guardians to keep themselves and their children up to date with the pertussis vaccine after a recent rise in cases in the region. Public health advises anyone who has a cough lasting longer than one week to seek assessment through their primary care provider.
Additionally, Southwestern Public Health is monitoring pertussis cases in schools. If a student receives a letter from public health about pertussis exposures and develops a cough, they are encouraged to get tested by their primary care provider.
