Take Refuge in the Sea. Declaring this re-do DONE! 20x20” acrylic, soft pastel, pen on canvas.
Look for me here! Coming soon…
Just finished this fabric & paper collage (artist monoprint). No paint involved…a fun change!
“Colouring Between the Lines” sold and finally at Charlie’s in Seattle!
Two recent-ish smaller ones. Both 12x12” on stretched canvas.
A revised version of an earlier painting with original title: “Just when I thought I had it all figured out.” 16x16” on birchwood panel. Acrylic & collage.
Most recent painting…no title yet. 16x16” on stretched canvas. Acrylic with paper and fabric collage.
“I dream in indigo.” 16x16” on exhibition birchwood panel. Acrylic, fabric & paper collage.
Another recent piece, just in case you missed it. (Now appearing on friend’s wall in Ottawa, Ont.)
I keep forgetting(!) that I have a FB page for my art. My son-in-law is helping me create a new web page (not FB)—stay tuned. In the meantime, for those of you who liked “No one”, the first photo is of a minor fix with same title. The other two, I just decided to add as samples of my attempt to create “in situ” photos. A tricky thing to do in my tiny apartment! Thanks for your kind words.
Finally happy with re-do of earlier painting. It’s a tribute to refugees wherever they are in the world and I’ve kept its original title “No One”, from a poem by British-Somali woman Warson Shire:
No one puts their children in a boat,
Unless the water is safer than the land.
No one leaves home
Unless home chases you.
16x16” acrylic & collage on canvas
Untitled. 12x12” acrylic, Inktense pencil, artist monoprint. On Khadi paper (100% cotton rag, from India).
Untitled. 8x10” acrylic, artist monoprints, soft pastel, Posca pen, Inktense pencil. On wood panel.
Saw this a while ago and loved it:
Some days I paint. Some days I people.
Some very recent work. And yes, blue is still dominating (mostly)!
Finished this one the other day—so far, untitled. It was another snowy day in Vancouver and that just might have been the inspiration! Maybe I’ll call it “Still Snowing”. Too boring? Titles are tough to come up with sometimes.
Just finished. “Child’s Play”. 20 x 16” on cradled wood panel. Acrylic / mixed media / collage.
I think it’s done now. Tried out a new process: only one colour (micaceous iron oxide with lots of glazing liquid) plus pastel ground and graphite. No title yet. On wood panel.
“Safe Harbour”, 12x16” acrylic/mixed media on canvas.
Welcome to my new FB page, LaurenzArt! If you see something you might like to put on your wall, please DM me for details and prices.

ARTIST STATEMENT
For 18 years I travelled across Canada as a network television producer for CBC, based in Ottawa. For many years after, I continued travelling and sometimes working in India, Mexico, Central and South America, Southeast Asia, North Africa and Europe. I’ve been a journalist, an advertising copywriter, a graphic designer, a waitress, and an English professor.
Somewhere along the way I started painting. The visual impact of those journeys continues to inspire me: the cool greys of cathedrals and the riotous reds of temples, the rich designs in carpets woven by hand and loom, and always, the blue depths of the seas.
I am, I suppose, still a restless soul, and painting grounds me. I am humbled by the work of others but I also know the only way I can make sense of my world is by attempting to put it on canvas.
