Som Tam & Pad Ka Prao listed among world’s top spicy foods in CNN's "World’s best spicy foods: 20 dishes to try"

CNN made a list of 20 of the world’s best spicy foods, and Thai cuisine has gained worldwide recognition again with two of its popular dishes: somtam and pad ka prao.

CNN describes som tam as a refreshing and spicy salad that is famous in Thai restaurants around the world. It is famous in the region of Isaan in spice-loving Thailand and also popular in neighboring Laos. Som tam uses green (unripe) papaya as its major component, which is typically julienned or shredded for the salad. The papaya is then combined with long beans or green beans and a variety of savory Asian seasonings, such as tamarind juice, dried shrimp, fish sauce, and sugar cane paste, among others. Thai chilies, often known as bird's eye chilies, provide the salad with its necessary spice.

Pad ka prao, a tasty but spicy dish, is a mealtime staple in Thailand, where it can be found at street-side vendors and restaurants from Bangkok to the islands.

The food, which is considered the Thai counterpart of a sandwich or burger, though it's actually a rice dish with the meat on the side, is made with ground pork, fiery Thai chili peppers, and holy basil and can be ordered as spicy as you want. Many locals recommend topping it with a fried egg with a runny yolk.

Various Thai recipes ranked among world's best cuisines for 2023

Thai cuisine has been placed 17th overall on the list of “100 Best Cuisines in the World” for 2023 by the website TasteAtlas, while various Thai dishes are included in the list of "100 Best Dishes in the World."

Along with Phat Kaphrao, which ranked third, other Thai delicacies that rank highly on the list include Khao Soi, which comes in at number six; Phanaeng curry, which ranks 10th; Tom Kha G*i, which ranks 15; and Massaman curry, which ranks 73rd.

The Brazilian beef cut Picanha is the highest-ranked food for 2023, followed by the Malaysian bread Roti Canai and the Thai stir-fry Phat Kaphrao. Phat Kaphrao is described on the website as a blend of minced meat or seafood, garlic, shallots, and chili peppers, along with holy basil.

It's interesting to note that Phat Kaphrao is the 4th most popular meal that foreigners order in Thailand.

Today is the Loy Krathong day in Thailand.

The ceremony is for us to be grateful for water we use everyday and to apologize to the Goddess of water by offering krathong and floating it in water, canal, and ocean.

The original krathong is made of banana leaves, banana tree trunk, decorated with flower petals. Before releasing kratong, we light incense sticks and candles for worshipping. 💦🌊🕯️ 🌺

Some areas such as the north of Thailand also rise lanterns to the sky or are called loy yee peng 🏮🏮🏮
