American Shooting Trips Utah Promo

Looking to get away this winter? Consider this.. "Colonial 3gn", April 13\14 St George Utah. A group of Brits have rented the ranges for a week of shooting and will be running a match at the end of it. Folks from South Africa, New Zealand are planning on coming as well. .. Vortex, Trijicon, Truspec, Warne, Otis, JP on board. 8 stages (maybe more).. plus a shotgun only side match (sponsored by Nordic), likely 3 stages. Limited, Tac, Open divisions, no heavy. Prop guns.. full auto, and likely a PCC only stage (thks JP!) $200 match fee and would include lunch both days, and likely some sort of supper.. a shooting match, NOT an athletic match.. just a bunch of folks having fun.. will go up on Practiscore this Sunday..

This will be a great warm up for the USPSA MG Nationals April 18-22nd.

Match Hint #8: Stage Planning..

First and foremost.. Pay attention to the Stage briefing! We have some stages with option (rifle\pistol, pistol\shotgun) targets, you'll want to take advantage of that.

A lot of shooters struggle with missing targets on their run.. in fact ,we all do, you need to find a way to ensure you engage all the targets, AND do mag changes\reloads at good places.. .. some are lucky enough to be able to visualize the entire stage in their head almost like a drone over flight, but for the rest of us, you need to find a technique. Most often it's either counting, or some sort of landmark, or a combination. At a recent match, the stage became 3 left, 1 right, mag change, 3 right, 1 left, mag change, popper, plate, target, popper, plate, target.. dump, then 4 behind the wall, load, 3 in front, etc.. Now that you have a plan, next up is minimizing extra steps to get in best position,, add some more landmarks, eg 3 right, door sill, 1 right.. It does take practise, and don't be afraid to ask others what they're doing. A number of us were struggling with a stage plan at a match, and one of the squad walks over and says.. 2 high, 2 low, 2 left, 2 right and suddenly all the confusion of vision barriers and targets behind barrels went away... Find something that works for you.. We all miss targets, and always will !..

Match Hint #7: Scoring

Just to review the penalty's.. avoiding these is the BEST way to improve your score.

Failure to Engage (FTE) a target: +15 ... applies to paper, steel, clay, poppers

Failure to Neutralize (FTN) (paper requires one A\B hit, or 2 anywhere to be neutralized): +5 .. only applies to paper

No Shoot: +5 (per hole.. no max)

Procedural: +5

Clay \ Steel \ Paper Miss: +10

Long Range (100m +) Failure to Engage: +30

Long Range (100m +) Miss: +20

Firearm abandoned in retention device with safety off: +30

Cause someone always asks.. you DO NOT get a Miss, or FTN penalty on top of a FTE.. just the FTE..
