Last night was an evening filled with amazing dance, fabulous singing, and the biggest community collaboration of the Ukrainian community in Saskatoon. I photographed this historical, emotional, and wonderful evening. It warmed my heart to see and I am still smiling today from the energy this event left in my soul.

Slava Ukraini! Слава Україні!
Glory to the Heroes! Героям слава!
A long overdue post from me. I could say I was hibernating, which in some sense I have been. Like many of us, life has recreated different paths on our journey and I decided to step back to just breathe.
Then, a fear became a reality with Ukraine being invaded by Russia/Kremlin/Putin. I kept myself very busy with becoming very involved with the Ukrainian Canadian Congress-Saskatoon Branch. I took part in a few fundraising initiatives with them. The Sunflower seed campaign was one of them.
I have long loved Sunflowers and so my soul was called to do whatever I could to help with the war effort.
Pavlychenko Folkloric Ensemble and I have been collaborating for a few years and this year we thought we would introduce performance photos. From Thursday to Sunday, I photographed the dancers' performances on the stage. It was 4 wonderful days of Ukrainian dancing, an evening of showcasing some of the dancers's best performances and a benefit concert. I also had a booth and created a Sunflower wreath with a blue backdrop for dancers to take photos for a donation. The donations will go to Bishop Filevich Ukrainian Bi-lingual school to help buy school supplies for the new arrivals from Ukraine.
Here is what my Sunflower backdrop looked like. The four days of photographing dancing will keep me busy for the next while editing. In total, a little over 26,000 images were taken over the weekend. I am looking forward to reliving the fabulous weekend of dance for the next while.
Cheers & Joy, Karen
I had an opportunity to create the cover photo for a new newsletter for Riversdale/King George neighbourhood. I was connected with Kevin via a mutual acquaintance. We seemed to have no shortage of conversation. Kevin Sorokowski is one of the creatives behind this project.
I spent a wonderful evening travelling about the neighbourhood capturing photos. These neighborhoods offer a plethora of places to visit, activities, cafes and parks to name a few things. I venture here often. It is a great place in our city to do sessions.
Please browse through the newsletter. Then go walk through these neighborhoods. So many wonderful things to discover.
Get a sneak peek at the newest publication in the neighbourhood! Though it officially launches on June 1st, you can find copies NOW at:
Amigos Cantina
Kelly’s Cafe
Pokey’s Pinball Cafe
Hope Hair Recovery
Soul Paper
Twig & Squirrel’s
and Peryton Books.
It will be available digitally on June 1st, but if you don't wanna wait, visit these fine establishments.
I came up with a project I wanted to do for Vyshyvanka Day, which is May 20th. My technology has been challenging me the last week and I was not able to have it completed in time to post today. However, it is finished, and here is my Vyshyvanka - World Embroidery Day project. I collaborated with Pavlychenko Folkloric Ensemble to create the images for the project. It is dedicated to our city's river landscape, from the ancestors to all future generations.
