What an accomplishment!

in history (4 December) Dr. Roberta Bondar was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

Bondar made history by being the first Canadian woman, as well as the first neurologist, to travel into space.

Bondar was chosen as one of the six original Canadian astronauts and began her Canadian Space Agency (CSA) training in 1984 and was flown into space in 1992 as a payload specialist on the Discovery space shuttle during the STS-42 mission.

She wears many hats as a remarkable scientific researcher, physician, astronaut, author, photographer, and even played a role in the movie 'Destiny in Space'. Bondar has won many awards including the Order of Canada and has been inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame.
