Alaska day 5 Juneau.
Another breath taking day! We docked and were greeted with stunning views. Once we went to shore we took a short bus shuttle in to town. We then went right to the gold belt tram (this is one of the most vertical trams in the world taking you 1,800 feet up) the views up top were phenomenal! There is also a couple of shops and dining options as well as some hiking trails. We simply enjoyed the spectacular views. This ship looked so tiny from up there.
After wards we walked along the boardwalk enjoying the totem pole trail and the intricacies of the different totem poles. We also saw a bald eagle just off the shore.
For lunch we went to Tracy’s Crab Shack this was by far the most delicious crab I have ever had!
The evening entertainment in board was the frozen musical. Followed by a great act in the adult area by Taylor Mason (a ventriloquist and comedian). Of course we also spent some time at the spa!
Have you tried the peanut butter cold
Brew from Gideons? Did you know you can ask for it without ice and put it in your room fridge overnight so you can have one in the morning? They also offer it in 2 sizes now so you can get even more of this liquid gold.
Checked in at Animal Kingdom Lodge and ready for a short adventure.
Heading to Sanaas for their delicious bread service before going to Epcot.
A short pause in the Alaskan cruise photos and recaps as I head to Disney World to check out Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. I will be in Disney World for a quick mini getaway and can not wait to to be able
To post updates here!
A little time lapse of the way down from Icy Straight!
Day 4 - our first actual port of
Call was Icy Straight. The view from the skyglider and top of the mountain were spectacular! We learned about the Tlingit (Alaska’s indigenous peoples) went on a small hike and saw some beautiful flowers and snow! Seing the ship from the top of the mountain was also pretty spectacular.
There were some pretty intimidating bear warning signs but the hike trails as well as an armed forest ranger just in case of bear sightings!
While we didn’t see any bears we did see an Eagle!
The tender excursion « glacier explorer » leaving the ship to head closer to the glacier.
Day 3 saw us sailing through Tracy’s Arm Fjord to board the glacier explorer an excursion to get up close to see the south Seward Glacier. This was one of the highlights of the cruise for us. Pictures do not do this justice. The pure blue of the glacier and the sheer beauty can not be captured by pictures or videos.
Our day started with meeting Mickey and Minnie in their super cute Alaskan outfits on the upper deck.
We boarded the excursion boat around noon. There were about 115 passengers. We tendered from the ship and started our journey. We were surprised to see a mama bear with her 2 little cubs. We also saw many seals floating up on the ice. We were told that Tracy’s Arm only has one true waterfall and we got up nice and close to it.
The excursion brings some fresh ice from the iceberg on board and then they serve up some yummy refreshing « glaceritas ». Of course we had to try one.
This was also the night of the Freeze the night away deck party. Where Elsa, Anna and their friends came to dance and party with us.
Day 2 - At Sea. I love days at sea. They are perfect for relaxing, exploring the ship and participating in some
On board activities (there are LOTS to choose from).
I do get sea sick and the morning was pretty rocky so I skipped breakfast and took Dramamine, slept until about 10:30 and then felt great!
We enjoyed the changing scenery, visited the spa (we both got the rainforest pass - a separate post on this later) and participated in some on board activities including a mixology class which is always fun! This is a beverage tasting seminar where the bar tender creates specialty drinks for the group and explains how they were created. You get 5 drinks and it is a great way to get to know others on board as well.
There are Trivia games, how to draw workshops, crafts, character meets and many other activities located throughout the ship.
This was also the night for the Golden Mickeys! A fun live theatre show in the theatre.
Of course we had to go to Eye Scream for a treat.
Dinner was at Animators palate and our servers were so much fun. Giving us lovely bows 🙂
Do you enjoy sea days? What is your favourite thing to do on these relaxing days?
Prima Notte - an exclusive event available only on the first night of select cruises. This is a wine tasting that consists of 5 fine Italian Wines paired with delicious bite sized delicacies. The experience takes place at the adult exclusive restaurant Palo. We were able to get reservations and really enjoyed all the wines and the foods offered. It was an amazing way to kick off our cruise:
We were brought to a private room where the whole group was seated together around a large table (there were 10 of us in total). This was the « Palo » room. Side note Palo we were informed means « pole » in Italian and a large « pole » adorned the room, however I forgot to get a picture.
The sommelier presents and pours each wine offering and tells us a little about each one.
1. Grande Cuvée Bellavista Alma Brut sparkling wine. The tiny bubbles are quite refreshing. This was served to us as we entered and waited for the whole group to be escorted to our private room.
2. A vintage Tunina. I am not usually a big fan of white wines however this one was delicious. It was served with a yellowfin tuna which was delectable .
3. Chianti Classico Riserva served with the most delicious gnocchi in a basil pesto sauce. This wine is very dry and having a sip after a bite of the gnocchi completely changes the flavours of this wine. The pairing on this is bang on.
4. The most delicious piece of wagyu beef paired with a glass of Tenuta Luce. This is perhaps my favourite wine of the evening. It was very smooth and I enjoyed the depths of flavours.
5. Finally it was time for dessert. The wine for this was Ben Rye Passito Di Pantellera. Of course a dessert wine. This was very sweet wine and did pair nicely with our final course of a blood orange chocolate mousse.
We felt that the $85 price tag for this was well worth it. A great experience trying some delicious higher end wines that we likely would not have had the chance to try without this experience.
Afterwards we were gifted an amazing exclusive Palo Disney pin!
Is this an experience you would enjoy! Also share your favourite wine below.
Day 1 - embarkation this is always magical! As always you will want a day bag with whatever it is you may want for that first afternoon/evening while awaiting your luggage (which usually arrives before 5pm outside your stateroom door). We also recommend getting an earlier boarding time to familiarize yourself
With the ship and enjoy lunch at either Cabana’s (the buffet where we ate) or there is also one restaurant open for a table service meal if you prefer. The views of Canada Place cruise terminal from on board were wonderful. It is such a different view compared to boarding from Florida! We walked around and were greeted by captain Mickey, we saw Chip and Dale wondering the halls took in some views, checked out the cruise ship and our room. And got ready for our Prima Notte event (more to come on this!)
As with all vacations my Alaskan cruise is over. Stay tuned as I will be posting all the photos and videos from the cruise over the next week! It was absolutely spectacular and I can’t wait to share.
And we have boarded the ship!!’ There is nothing better than being welcomed aboard a Disney cruise ship
Heading west for our Alaskan cruise aboard the Disney Wonder! Follow along for our adventures over the next week. We always recommend arriving at least one day prior to any cruise. We going a few days early to visit family on Victoria first and we set sail on Monday.
Flying out for our Disney Alaskan cruise in the morning! Spending a few days in Victoria before sailing out of Vancouver Monday! The Alt hotel is a great spot to stay if you are flying out early. You can park and stay here!
Do you know about Fish Extenders?
Fish extenders is a fun gift exchange aboard Disney Cruise ships. You sign up ahead and get assigned a group then you buy or make gifts for those in your group and once on board you delivery them.
Those participating hang a bag or « extender » from their room number (traditionally a Fish which is where the name came from)!
I am heading on an Alaskan cruise in a week and just finished making my gifts. Everyone in our exchange will be getting a set containing hat, scarf and little gloves.
This is such a fun activities and yes kids love this, however I am cruising with my mom and we are two adults. They have these groups for adults too because we like to have fun as well!
