This week, Vanessa sat with a panel of women from across BC and attended a Roots of Safety workshops that took place this week. These workshops and the program itself emphasizes culturally appropriate safety planning between workers and immigrant and refugee women in a non-blaming, non-shaming and non-judgmental manner. The day was full of raw conversations, insight, sharing and action planning.
Today our COO Vanessa was invited as a special guest by North Shore Rescue for the official opening of the SAR base at Capilano Gate (just inside the watershed gate at Cleveland Dam.
This new state of the art facility replaces their old Cap Gate SAR station, and provides critical space for rescue and helicopter operations in the western portion of our response area.
NSR hosted a number of dignitaries, including Federal, Provincial, Regional, and Municipal leaders, for the unveiling.
Notably, a number of representatives from the Bergwacht mountain rescue team in Oberau, Germany, were also present. This is NSR's sister team in the Bavarian Alps and the two organizations have spent considerable time sharing best practices, experiences, and lessons learned in search and rescue.
Vanessa was able to watch and participate in a number of educational demonstrations throughout the day, including highline rope rescue, medical, helicopter rescue, and ofcourse she got to meet all the search dogs. She was also able to tour the facility and learn the ins and outs of what goes into search and resuce and meet the crew.
The formal proceedings had to be paused to enable their helicopter rescue team to depart on a Mutual Aid call to assist Ridge Meadows SAR with a hoist rescue in a creek.
An incredible amount of thanks goes out to the brave people who volunteer at the north shore search and rescue. We thank them for their commitment and their bravery.
We also extend our thanks to Aaron Williams from Squamish Nation who honored us all with a blessing and educated those present on the proud history of the Squamish Nation.
Meet D'arcy, our head of the Eco Wellness Department. For him, physical health is synonymous with embracing nature. Exercising outdoors not only nourishes the mind but also allows for the utilization of simple tools and items found in the natural environment to strengthen the body. Among D'arcy's favourite fitness activities is Krabi Karbong stick fightingβa practice that not only keeps him physically sharp but also enhances mental acuity. πΏπͺ
Who better to guide us on physical health care than Meghan, our head of the wellness department! Meghan is the epitome of wellness, immersing herself in it with unparalleled passion and knowledge. Among her cherished practices is nourishing her body with wholesome, natural foods, incorporating healthy movement, and fostering mental calmness whenever possible. Her leadership of the entire department is a testament to the genuine commitment she brings to holistic well-being. πΏπͺ
Vanessa, our resident adventurer always on the go. Struggling to find a fitness routine within her busy schedule, our in-house nerd with a deep love for fantasy literature embarked on a quest to walk to Mordor. Integrating long-distance walks before, after, and sometimes even during work, Vanessa not only clocked her steps and immersed herself in nature but also earned the ultimate bragging rights of walking to Mordor.
We inquired with our leadership department about their approach to enhancing physical well-being and the positive impact it has on their mental health. ποΈββοΈπ‘

The cost of poor mental health is greater than we think
It was an honour spending time with D.R.U.M C today and watching them perform!
Thank you for an amazing closing performance at the 11th Annual Fraser Valley Pride 2023!
We were surprised to see our COO Vanessa leave the office early today, we were less surprised to find out it was to go home and bake cookies.
We all show love in different ways, and one of Vanessa's ways to make those around her feel loved is by baking treats for them. So ofcourse she turned her kitchen into a baking factory today to make colorful cookies to bring to the 11th Annual Fraser Valley Pride Celebration Festival. She also got some help from D.R.U.M C ( Dawn rising urban medicine circle ) to help hand some out.
We can only hope their will be a few left over for us to have in the officeπ€
We're grateful for all the vendors, musicians, and friends who came together today to show their support. At DHHS, we value our workers, friends, and community, and it's heartwarming to see everyone united.
Vanessa also got to spend time with the D.R.U.M C group, so stay tuned for some behind the scenes pictures coming soon!!!

"People who need help sometimes look a lot like people who don't need help." ππ
In a world where appearances can be deceiving, it's essential to remember that struggles and hardships often remain hidden beneath the surface. We encounter countless individuals who may seem strong, confident, and put together, but deep down, they might be silently grappling with their own battles.
Let's foster a culture of empathy and understanding, where we don't judge based on outward appearances alone. Let's extend a helping hand, lend an ear, or offer support to those around us, even if they seem to have it all together. You never know the difference a small act of kindness can make in someone's life.
Remember, we're all fighting our own battles, and it's through compassion and solidarity that we can create a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported. π€β€οΈ
Take a moment for self-care and remember: Your mental health matters. Embrace your worth and know that you are deserving of love. π
When the weight of the world feels heavy on your shoulders, remember that you're never alone. πͺπΌ It takes strength and courage to ask for help, and there's no shame in reaching out when you need it.
π Mental health matters, and so do you. If you're struggling, remember that there are people around you who care deeply about your well-being. Reach out to a friend, a family member, or a professional.
π£οΈ Let's break the silence and end the stigma surrounding mental health. It's okay to not be okay, and it's even better to speak up and seek support. Together, we can create a safe space where no one feels alone in their struggles.
π» Remember, asking for help doesn't make you weak; it's a sign of strength and self-awareness. You deserve happiness, peace, and a life filled with love and support.
It is okay to ask for help!
At Dreamcatcher. We take a hands-on approach! Showcased here by our CEO, Mia. She is currently with the Siksika Nation, and we are honored that she has been able to celebrate with them in so many ways.
