Mental health concerns don’t look the same for everyone ♥️
Ever notice mental health awareness and discussions come up AFTER a death by su***de, a crisis situation or someone famous talking about it ?
In order to take care of our physical health we are constantly reminded to be aware of certain signs and symptoms. Schedule check-ups, know the indicators etc.
If we really want to “change the conversation” and “end the stigma” we need to work on prevention and making services accessible
Simply put; mental health, is health. Let’s start treating it the same as the rest of our health.
During the holiday season it is OK to experience a mix of emotions. Through the hustle and bustle please remember the greatest gift is kindness 🤍❄️
If you find yourself struggling, please know you are not alone. We wanted to take a minute to share some quick tips (below in the photos) that may be helpful for the holidays.
Determine your support network- personal or professional connections - those that can assist you through the challenges and experience the joy with you this season ❤️
There is SO much power in gratitude. Focusing on what we are thankful for and identifying and reflecting on what we DO have in our lives, boosts positive thoughts and improves mood.
However, the trend of “attitude of gratitude” can also be misleading. We can be thankful and still be struggling - it’s important not to confuse the two.
Being grateful people doesn’t always equate healthy people; it’s simply one piece of the puzzle and it is still necessary to incorporate other methods of healing ❤️🩹

Summer is here (questionable in NL) and for so many it’s been a long awaited period; as we ease back into a somewhat “normal” life.
Isolation can be hard. Being unable to travel can be hard. Not having the ability to engage in your typical activities can be hard.
But, for many of us CHANGE Is hard - even positive change. Maybe you’re not feeling the happy, anticipatory feelings that others are.
That is OK … we are here to discuss and help overcome challenges as we prepare for the new road ahead

Happy Pride Month 🌈 Nova is a safe space 2SLGBTQQIA+ individuals. Everyone is welcomed here
Everyone struggles. Each person’s experience of struggle is unique. Please reach out , you don’t have to do this alone.
A gentle reminder as we head into this Spring weekend 💜
As individuals we often try to connect ourselves to another persons experience. However, our experiences with trauma , grief/loss and mental health concerns are very individualized. Well intentioned statements that start with “ ya but, stay strong, at least etc” can be very isolating to people who are struggling.
Speaking to a non judgmental, trained mental health practitioner is an important first step to healing. Your experience = your feelings.
Many people have voiced their feelings since Friday’s news. Another two weeks in Level 5...are we ever going to get out of this? How can I survive another lockdown? I need to see my family. I feel so alone.
Right now, we’ve been told that PHYSICAL isolation is necessary to maintain physical wellness
But MENTAL isolation does the opposite; holding in your feelings, otherwise known as “bottling things up” can wreak havoc on your physical and emotional well-being. This, in turn impacts your overall wellness and your actions; how you perform at work, interact with others, the list goes on.
We get it! And we are here.
We’ve established a platform where we can connect even while physically distancing.
Reach out today, you’re not alone. ♥️
Isolation fatigue; loss of connection; monotony; uncertainty; fear; hopelessness...these are some of the many terms we hear as we move into the second week of Lockdown 2.0 in our province.
These feelings are often amplified for those experiencing already existing mental health issues...We’ve been asked to adapt literally all areas of life.
We get it! This is HARD. But we are in it together and we’ve adapted too. We are happy to offer virtual sessions; we may need to PHYSICALLY isolate but you do not have to be alone, connect and reach out ♥️
Did you know you don’t have to live in St.John’s and surrounding areas to meet with our counsellors ?
We are still offering virtual sessions - which means we can meet with individuals all over Newfoundland and Labrador. Don’t let your location be a barrier to seeking help. E Mail us at : [email protected] and inquire about our virtual services.

Talking helps, sharing helps, support helps. And we are here; we are in this together. Reach out to us if you or someone you know needs to talk ♥️

With Christmas being just around the corner, we thought we would share some helpful tips for coping with grief and loss during the Holidays:
1. Decide which traditions you want to keep.
2. Decide which traditions you want to change.
3. Set healthy boundaries. You DO NOT have to attend every holiday event if it is too painful. Saying no is ok.
4. Plan ahead. Maybe you drive yourself to the holiday party so you can leave when you feel like it.
5. Honour your loved one in a new tradition.
6. Allow yourself to feel your emotions. Grieving is a part of healing, allow yourself to grieve.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you are struggling with any form of grief and loss during the Holidays. Plan ahead and get the support you need.
Here is a helpful tip to help build your child’s emotional intelligence

Our thoughts this week are with the survivors of sexual violence.
If you have experienced sexual violence or have been impacted by the brave and empowering testimony of Dr. Ford, please know that we are here to listen to your truth.
For most women, the birth of a child is often a time of happiness and celebration. For others it can be a mixed bag of emotions including anxiety and depressive thoughts/ symptoms.
This can feel scary and overwhelming.
At NOVA Counselling + Wellness, Maternal Mental Health is important to us.
Please don’t suffer in silence. We are here to help.
