Olena Kolokolova - Piano

Olena is a highly motivated Ukrainian music piano teacher and accompanist with over 25 years of experience in a multicultural teaching ambience. Her music journey began at eight years old with piano lessons. This journey led her to obtain a bachelor's degree in Music Pedagogy with a specialty in Piano. She worked as a piano teacher at the Music School and accompanist in the classical and popular Music Festivals in Ukraine and Poland. Subsequently, she followed her professional career as a Piano, Pedagogy and Theory professor at Montemorelos University, Mexico. Simultaneously, she volunteered as an accompanist of Sacred Music in the churches and prepared students for the Music Festivals in Monterrey (Mexico) and Texas (USA).
Olena believes that studying musical instruments not only brings joy and satisfaction but also serves as an excellent tool for developing a child's personality and enhancing their human and academic potential.
She used to organize community service programs called "Music for Share" with her students, where they offered concerts to nursing homes, carrying the joy of music to disabled people, and concerts to collect funds for people suffering from wars and natural disasters. In these events, children learn how their musical talents can bless others in need.
She reflects on her experience from last year, saying: "I am pleased to have the opportunity to live in the beautiful province of Newfoundland, with its kind and welcoming people. I am also happy to have the experience of working with the Music Collection, where I got to know its dedicated and friendly staff and many wonderful families committed to giving their children the joy of enriching musical education and development."

Shayan Haselibozchaloee - Flute

Born in Iran, Shayan started his music career with formal education at the University of Applied Science and Technology in Tehran, where he obtained his Bachelor of Music degree. He demonstrated his talent early on by winning several prestigious awards, including first prizes at the Iran Youth Music Festival and the Fine Arts Schools Festival. He began his professional career as a flautist with the Iran National Orchestra, a position he held from 2015 to 2019. He extensively showcased his talents nationally and globally throughout this period, collaborating with well-known conductors and musicians. His dedication to his craft and colleagues was evident in his leadership of the flute section, guiding rehearsals and performances to achieve exceptional results. He then finished a Master of Music in Flute Performance and Pedagogy at Memorial University of Newfoundland under the mentorship of Michelle Charmy. Besides his performing career, Shayan has a strong interest in teaching. He was a teaching assistant at the University of Applied Science and Technology, supporting high school and university students by leading rehearsals, organizing lessons, and nurturing their musical abilities. Shayan believes in instilling determination and enthusiasm in his students through modern educational approaches to help them achieve their maximum capabilities.

Julianne Meaney - Voice, Ukulele, Beginner Piano, Musical Theatre Director.

Julianne started her music career as a 7-year-old taking voice lessons at Music Collection. She is now a graduate of Memorial University's Bachelor of Music program and a devoted teacher. She has been featured in a number of local operas, musical theatre productions and pop music concerts; with highlights including the role of Alice in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (MUN Opera, 2019), Denise in La marriage aux lanternes (MUN Opera, 2015) and Belle in Scrooge (Peter MacDonald Productions, 2014). Julianne has won several awards for her participation in the Kiwanis Music Festival, most notably the prestigious Senior Vocal Rose Bowl Award in 2018 for the top performance in the festival by a senior vocalist. Since beginning her teaching career in 2015, Julianne has shared her passion and enthusiasm with musicians of all ages and abilities. Her students have gone on to have great success in the Kiwanis Music Festival, performances in musical theatre productions and increased their confidence and love of music. Julianne's unique background of training in singing, acting, and performance gives her a unique skill set that includes musical genres such as Musical Theatre, Traditional, Opera/Classical, popular music and songwriting. She loves working with voice and beginner piano and ukulele students to find technique, expression and confidence in music.

Madeline Carter - Violin/Fiddle, Mandolin

Madeline Carter is a fiddler originally from Aulac, New Brunswick who has been playing for 14 years. Playing a variety of different genres of music including Celtic, Country, and Folk, she also composes her own music. Along with her sisters, they make up “The Carter Girls” and their debut album "Crossing Borders" was released in July of 2020 featuring 6 original tunes. The album was recorded at "The Loft Studio" in Moncton, New Brunswick with the help of Studio Engineer and good friend Tyler Vollrath. Now living in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Madeline has recently graduated and received her diploma for Music Performance Business and Technology at College of the North Atlantic. She is gigging full time with duo partners Richard Parsons Jr and Darcy Scott and her band Saving Throw as well as being a backup fiddler for many local bands. She hopes to have a career in the music industry and continue her love and passion of music for many years to come.

Bryan Efford - Percussion, Drum Kit, Bodhran, Drum Line Director

Bryan has been studying, performing and teaching as a percussionist for over 30 years. With a great love of marching and military band music, Bryan has been a proud member of the CLB Regimental Band since 1992 and is now director of their Corps of Drums.
From 1991 to 2014, Bryan volunteered as a principal accompanist with the Mount Pearl Show Choir and Etcetera programs, performing in annual productions and many tours to Europe, Japan and the United States.
In 2004, Bryan founded The Music Collection Drumline which has become a respected youth music program in the province. Currently, Bryan is performing and recording with NL Traditional group Rugged Shores. Bryan believes in fostering a passion for drumming and watching the students develop and grow as musicians.

Arlene Transue - Voice

Arlene Transue holds a B.Mus./B.Mus.Ed. from Memorial University of Newfoundland and a M.Mus in Voice Performance from the University of British Columbia. She also completed a Diploma in Opera Performance from the University of Toronto Opera Division. Arlene has performed across Canada and the United States. Roles include Musetta in La Boheme, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, and Cunegonde in Candide. She appeared as Yum Yum in the Brevard Music Center's production of The Mikado. She spent several seasons with Ohio Light Opera performing in over 24 productions. Arlene has performed concerts in British Columbia, Newfoundland and Alaska and has performed Handel's Messiah with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra. She has also completed studies in Siena, Italy and Salzburg, Austria. Before moving back home in 2021, Arlene was on the Voice Faculty of Southern Illinois University Carbondale and John A. Logan College, Carterville IL where she taught Undergraduates, Graduates and Musical Theater students. She brings with her over 30 yrs of teaching and performing experience. She currently teaches with NLESD.

Maggie Burt - Flute, Piano
Maggie has been playing flute since age 7 and piano since age 5. She is currently working on her Bachelor of Music degree as a third year student in the flute studio of Dr. Michelle Cheramy. She has been involved in the MUN wind ensemble, National Youth Band of Canada, and Calos Youth Orchestra as both a student and a mentor. She has won numerous awards at Kiwanis and was an Atlantic Canada Royal Conservatory of Music gold medal winner for 3 consecutive years. She is looking forward to passing on her love and passion for music to her new students.
