A recent trip took me down the streets of London to visit Sigmund Freud's home. Whilst our centre practices from an Evidence-Based lens, we certainly appreciate Freud's early contribution to the field to psychology and more specifically, the impact he had on societal views of mental health.

I've been blessed to sit in this room and bear witness to healing, change and processing past trauma. I have laughed, with many cried with a few and held space for individuals that have walked through our doors looking for answers.

Healing goes beyond our four walls and continues on a daily basis as you process our time together, and with finding the courage and motivation to work on implementing the tools we provide as you strive for positive change and finding solutions.

Here at Lemon Tree, our commitment to you since our opening and onwards, is to continue providing Evidence-Based Clinical Counselling, Compassion and to hold your hand as we walk alongside you on your journey, whatever that may be.

Trauma can have a profound impact on a personโ€™s memory. Traumatic memory can affect not only the brain, but also the body and nervous system as well.

Often times, clients coming in for PTSD are unpacking traumatic experiences that they have put in a box and locked away for so long hoping to never open it; in other words, the unopened Pandora's box.

This has recently been a common presenting challenge, especially living during a pandemic where social isolation and decreased stress-relieving activities are not a viable outlet or distraction.

The goal of therapy is to process, symptom reduction, ground and help shift your narrative.

The Tree of Life exercise helps individuals (youth & adults) reclaim their direction and identity through visual storytelling. The Tree of Life symbolizes your life and different elements that make up your past, present & future. This simple, yet powerful exercise can allow you to reflect on how you would like to shape your life.

Instructions have been added in the comments on my Instagram page. If you have concerns that completing this exercise alone may bring up emotion you're not comfortable with, consider doing this activity with your therapist, a trusted friend, or family member.

The self care wheel identifies all the areas we need to be nurturing to avoid burnout. Burnout can be defined as physical and mental exhaustion, often associated with a loss of identity and the sense that we are not accomplishing anything. 

When clients come to me with burnout or fatigue, a formal self care assessment can be a very powerful tool for determining the cause of burnout, and ways to alleviate stress. 

To develop a self care plan at home, follow these three steps:

๐—”๐˜€๐˜€๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€ each self care domain and where you may be lacking, or which part needs some more attention. 
๐—ฃ๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ป to look after the self care areas that need more love by thinking of ideas and activities. 
๐—”๐—ฐ๐˜ on those ideas by creating a routine or schedule.

New Zealand has become the second country in the world to recognize the physical and emotional pain of a miscarriage, by providing paid leave.

Whilst 1 in 4 pregnancies will end in pregnancy loss, Canada has yet to formalize a bereavement leave for pregnancies that end prior to 20 weeks gestation. This adds to the stigma that women who miscarry should "suffer less grief".
