The graduation ceremony for the first and second cohorts of the Food Service Assistant Certificate Program happened on Oct 24, 2023, at Aria Banquet Hall.
The PBLMT project, a partnership between UNITI, Progressive Intercultural Services Society (PICS) and Western Community College (WCC), had 24 students completing the course, which included four weeks of practicum experience in the food industry. Seven of them had joined WCC's ceremony, which was a great way to celebrate this incredible milestone. Congratulations to the graduates!

When it came to designing our new office post-Covid, we decided to kick conventionality to the curb. Let's be honest, the past two years have been all about remote communication, leaving us without any face-to-face contact. Surprisingly, even those clients who were hesitant about technology managed to find their comfort zone with it. Before the pandemic, only about 20% of my client meetings took place using platforms like Webex, Zoom, Teams, and the like. But now, that number has skyrocketed to around 75% and shows no sign of slowing down. The convenience is just too tempting for most clients to resist
As a result, the office environment needed to adapt and evolve. The old setup, which was primarily focused on catering to clients, had to make way for a new era. Now, the pendulum has swung, and offices serve a dual purpose. We wanted to create a space that prioritized comfort, creativity, and approachability, while still being fully functional for our clients to enjoy. And guess what? I'm thrilled to to say we've hit the right chord on this one (pun intended). Stay tuned for some more pics of our evolving new space!

HIKES or YIKES! would both be fitting titles for the market volatility this past Friday. Volatility that in large part was brought on by the feds mishandling of inflation over the past six months. Not only by it’s failure to act earlier in the process but then it’s doubling down with a endless procession of Fed speakers bellying up to a podium trying to one up each other with evermore threatening rate hike predictions.
Hey, I get it, it was initially hard to distinguish between the inevitable inflation caused by government stimulus packages put in place to help get us through Covid, or inflation caused by supply chains pinched beyond recognition due to, yup you guessed it, Covid. And yes, The age-old strategy of increasing interest rates to stem inflation is a necessary one, which by the way always reminds me of that childhood nursery rhyme ”I knew an old lady who swallowed a spider to catch the fly” but I digress, Now where was I, oh yeah, inflation, rising interest rates, necessary evil…etc, we get it, but then take a stand, and lay out a detailed plan of attack. Because, I gotta tell ya, hyperbole and speculation around interest rate hikes, is not a good recipe for trying to calm markets that crave certainty.
Here’s an excerpt from an article I read this past weekend by Noah Blackstein, a portfolio manager responsible for the management of over $12 billion dollars in U.S. and global growth portfolios for Dynamic.
“Markets are abuzz with talk of a possible 75bp hike from the Fed after formerly dovish San Francisco Fed president Daly discussed the possibility of moving in 25, 50 or 75bp increments. Until then the only real mention of 75s had come from hawkish Bullard who seemed to have few takers. Daly's comments were read by many as suggesting that 75bp is seriously in play. And this helped fuel the move higher in yields and lower in equities… We think the likelihood of a 75bp move in May is still very low and we think the Fed will likely stick to 50s more broadly through June and July before reverting to 25s from September. But in our view this episode exposes the problems arising from the Fed leadership's failure to put more of a framework and structure around the move towards larger units of hiking, and highlights the need for Powell to corral the debate not later than the May press conference.”
In the meantime keep your wits about you, because simple, just isn’t that simple anymore.
Have a great weekend with your families.
