New Research 📣
What is the association of children’s physical activity and screen time with mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic?
In a cross-sectional national survey that included 1000 school-aged children in the US, children who engaged in more physical activity and less screen time had better mental health outcomes as measured by the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire.
Meaning: These findings suggest that physical activity and screen time may be targets for promoting children’s mental health during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

As promised, here are some tips to avoid the consequences of “Tech” or “Text” Neck:
MAKE SURE YOUR SCREEN IS EYE-LEVEL. This means you should not be looking down or up at your phone/tablet/computer; you should be looking straight ahead.
TAKE BREAKS! Every 20-30 minutes you should be looking up from your screen.
STRETCH before, during and after screen time.
PAY ATTENTION to your posture, and keep it in check. Look up from your screen, squeeze your shoulder blades together, turn your palms out to face forward and take a deep breath in and out. This will reset your posture and give your neck joints and muscles a well-deserved break!
⚡️ If you are reading this post, chances are you are putting stress on your neck muscles and joints!⚡️
💥 Whether you are looking at your phone or computer screen, proper posture is often disregarded. 💥
⚡️ Your neck is likely sustained in a forward flexed (bent) position. ⚡️
😳 Your head is quite heavy; the further away it is from the lowest part of your neck (ie. The further bent forward it is) and the longer it is in that position, the more work it is for your neck muscles and joints to hold it up. 😳
The consequences of maintaining this improper posture include:
➡️ muscle strain/fatigue
➡️ disc injury
➡️ pinched nerves
➡️ possibly even degenerative changes
🙌 Look out for tomorrow's post as we will provide some valuable tips on how to prevent "Text/Tech Neck"! 🙌
Over the weekend, ProMedX Sports Injury and Wellness Centre reached an important milestone…11 years servicing your health and wellness!

Posted • 🔥 HEAT VS ICE ❄
Ever wondered if you should be applying heat or ice to a certain injury or pain?
🔥 HEAT aches and pains that have been long-standing or that are not new to you. 🔥
🔥 Heat helps to increase blood flow, calm down the muscles, and promotes soothing relief. It is generally recommended to heat in intervals of no more than 15 to 20 minutes at a time. Repeat as needed. 🔥
❄ ICE sudden bouts of pain, or directly following an injury. ❄
❄ Ice helps to calm down the overdrive of inflammation and prevents swelling following a new injury, which results in a decrease of pain. It is generally recommended to ice in intervals of no more than 10 to 15 minutes at a time. Repeat as needed.❄
❗❗❗Please remember to protect your skin by wrapping the ice or heat source in a cloth or clothing. Never directly apply ice or heat to your skin.❗❗❗
🌟 This information is a general rule of thumb. Always be sure to speak to your healthcare provider for advice related to your specific condition/diagnosis. 🌟
