Eye injuries in sports can range from low to high risk depending on the activity. High-risk sports include baseball, basketball, lacrosse, hockey, paintball, and martial arts. Common eye injuries include:

⚠️ Blunt Trauma: Caused by an object hitting the eye, leading to retinal tears, detachment, or broken bones.

⚠️ Corneal Abrasion: Occurs when the eye is scratched by a foreign object, leading to redness, infection, or vision problems.

You can prevent eye injuries by using protective eyewear, just like helmets or shin pads. Consult your optometrist for the best protection options.

Children with vision problems are generally unaware of their condition because they assume everyone sees the way they do. It's important to be on the watch for signs that suggest your child may be struggling to see. Some common signs and symptoms include:

👉 Tearing, red, itchy, or burning eyes
👉 Holding objects close to the eyes
👉 Headaches or eye strain
👉 Blurry vision or double vision
👉 Eye turn (strabismus)
