Posted • Children deserve to be protected against COVID-19 as much as adults do ✔️
🤔Parents who are considering whether to vaccinate their child against COVID-19 may have concerns about the risk of myocarditis 🫀
Myocarditis ➡️ inflammation of the heart tissue is an extremely rare vaccine side effect
▪️Scientists estimate that vaccine-related myocarditis in males aged 12-15 is approximately 200/million and about 30/million in females
▪️Those who develop this rare side effect typically have some chest pain, feel unwell for a day and are treated with ibuprofen
🦠Myocarditis symptoms from COVID-19 infection are usually much more severe
🔸affecting as many as 1 in 45 people
(see previous posts on myocarditis for more details)
📊In the clinical trial for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for children 5-11 NO cases of myocarditis were observed
💉As of December 4 2021, real world data from the CDC:
▪️almost 5 million children between 5-11 have had at least one dose of the Pfizer vaccine
▪️NO cases of myocarditis have been reported
Bottom Line ⚖️
🔸There are never risk-free choices
🔸There are just choices to take different risks
🔸The COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11 is safe with significantly less risk than COVID-19 infection
