Have you wondered what the right mix of fonts for your resume are, and how they might be perceived by employers?
Hereâs a list of the most common fonts that are likely to be scanned well by Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and are easy enough to read for recruiters to find information quickly.
Pick no more than three complementary fonts if you plan to alternate headings, subheadings, and normal text, and stay consistent overall.
Note, this a sample of appropriate choices with sufficient variety to pick a favorite, though honorable mentions go out to Didot and Book Antiqua. :)
â Times New Roman (a classic)
â Garamond (great for Finance resumes)
â Georgia (provides a cursive feel without the illegibility of cursive fonts)
â Cambria (polished)
â Calibri (common across industries, replacing Times as the new MS Word default)
â Tahoma (approachable and inviting)
â Arial (basic, easy to read)
â Helvetica (the worldâs most commonly used font)
â Verdana (modern and sleek)
Whatâs your go-to font? đ
Your future employees need more transparency into your company.
Itâs important for companies to gain some awareness on what they can realistically offer and own up to those standards because candidates will appreciate the honesty and transparency that you share with them.
Donât be afraid to let candidates know the good and the bad.
If organizations can be more upfront with their requirements, it shows them as more inclusive and authentic during the job search process.
And you never know, maybe that honesty is enough for a candidate to take your job and STAY, knowing exactly what the climate they're walking into is.
There is nothing wrong with some transparency, when it comes to your retention strategy, the more the better.

Have you given your mind a break yet?
Itâs important to match the intensity of your work stress with the intensity of your recovery.
But what does that mean?
Well, if you have a busy day at work, give yourself time after work to do activities that let you rest and recover for the next day! This can help you decrease your burnout rate during the week and prevent carrying that weight of stress and anxiety onto the next day.
Jeff Riseley, the Founder of Sales Health Alliance, used the comparison between our mind and body and treating our work days like workout days. This analogy is a great way to understand the recovery process that our minds need to get back into its optimal state. If we start handling our brain the same way as our body, we will feel better about ourselves and our stress.
For example, if weâre working out and we tear a muscle or experience more soreness than usual, we are told that we need to take the rest of the week off or slow down a bit. So why not do that when we are burnt out from work?
This is not to say stop working, because we normally canât just take the week off on a whim, but the message here is to incorporate self-care routines into our workday and intentionally relax on our days off.
The world wonât stop for you but you are allowed to pause for a bit and take a few deep breaths before you go back to the grind.

What is employer branding?
It's about how you represent yourself as an organization and how you are seen in the eyes of candidates.
Just like marketing, companies need to focus on how they can market their employer reputation out to candidates in order to attract the best talent pool for future jobs. Think of a 'recruitment enablement' team, much like 'sales enablement.'
Many early stage start-ups in particular, miss the mark on what it takes to hire the best engineers long-term by cultivating their employer brand early.
Ask this question as a leader: How can I make the job of the recruiter easier?

Read this if you want to learn how to discover your own strengthsâŚ
Recruiting guru, Mike Bettley, shares one of the ways to identify your strengths is to understand that there are two dimensions to strength: competence and commitment.
Competence being the ABILITY to do the skills you are good at, while commitment is how much you ENJOY doing it and PRIORITIZE doing it.
Itâs important that what you are doing and what you identify as your strengths are things that make you happy. And even if you donât have the competence for a skill, if you have the commitment and drive to learn more, you can always develop and improve the competence over time.
Another way to help you understand where your strengths come from is by taking a personality test. Even a simple online assessment can be handy to learn what you are naturally good at or jobs that you gravitate towards. We suggest taking the 16 Personality Quiz based on Myers Briggs to gain insightful results.
Tune into Season 2, Episode 4: Youâve Got Talent with Mike Bettley and host for more personal development tips!
How do you know if a job is the right one for you?
When we spend so much time looking for jobs, we can start to get confused on what type of jobs or companies we actually want to work for. With the endless possibilities of roles, we tend to get into a mindset of âweâll take anything!â
And although there is merit to keeping an open-mind and being flexible, itâs important to know and identify what our strengths are and how our future jobs can harness our passions in a positive way.
As Ex-Recruiter for Google, Mike Bettley, emphasizes, if it seems like a lot of work to apply for that position, youâre either not excited enough for the company or you havenât done enough research.
A job that aligns with your strengths and passions will make you eager to learn more about the company and position because it is something that you are genuinely excited about.
So next time you are applying for jobs, ask yourself this: Can I see myself excited in this position? If you don't have enough information, get curious and learn more. If you're still not excited, it might not be the right fit for you.
