Beatrice was Dante Alighieri's great love and one of his inspirations for writing the Divine Comedy. Even though Dante only saw her twice in his life, he was completely in love with her. In the work, Beatrice represents all that is good and pure. Her early death at the age of only 24 seems to have compelled Dante to express the love he had for her in some way.
