Our upcoming issue will focus on the conceptual idea of "sharing," diaspora, and which parts of identity stay or are lost in translation. Here we welcome topics such as community and (hyper)individuality, the line between appreciation and appropriation, capitalist bastardizations like "profit-sharing," and our own personal experiences and relationships with our homes/the world.

We are also seeking COVER ART for this issue! More info on slide 3 :)

The Garg is revamping their submissions policy. Prod nights will still be as creative, collaborative and chaotic as they’ve always been but contributors are now required to submit a ‘proposal’ or ‘pitch’ for approval on the Monday prior.

We at the Garg pride ourselves in being the only publication at UofT that does whatever the f**k it wants to do. And it would be a shame not to use this freedom to challenge convention, form and what even counts as a paper. In addition to hearing your thoughts, opinions and treatises on modern art, we want you to embody its very spirit. You have full permission to display complete disregard for any rules, make us question what you mean and produce something that is as abstract, experimental and obscure as your heart desires. No page count, no word limit, no words even. 

! We hope you can join us on Wednesday, October 12th, for the production of issue #3, THE MODERN ART ISSUE!
Production night will take place in the UC junior common room (jcr) from 7 pm until ‘late’. 

Creation is a process, and a truly collaborative one at that. We want this issue to be a space to share, develop and deconstruct your most unconventional instincts and ideas.

The national day for truth & reconciliation and the passing of Queen Elizabeth proved to be catalysts for many of us to reconsider our relationship with land, history and power. The garg made the explicit decision to centre diasporic voices and those who have experience with the forces of colonialism and imperialism in this issue.

We hope reading this issue is as powerful of an experience as it was crafting it! Thank you so much to our contributors who summoned some brilliant, impactful and ANGRY words for the gargoyle.

the gargoyle stands fundamentally against the forces of imperialism, colonialism, and capitalism…
given the disproportionate effects of imperialism/colonialism on different people groups, and communities, we believe it is critical that this issue reflects and prioritizes the voices of those students with backgrounds and/or lived-experience in imperialized contexts, particularly Indigenous, Black, and mixed-heritage students as well as and concurrently students of diasporic experience from turtle island, to the caribbean, to palestine, and everywhere in between.

additionally, in the spirit of anti-imperialism, anti-colonialism, and anti-capitalism, we will be compensating all contributors for this issue!

Prod night will be held on Wednesday, September 28th from 7PM! Please make sure your submissions get to us before then ORR join us at prod night and help us make your words come alive.
