an opportunity to celebrate female leaders and women in medicine. The growth of women in our profession has been astounding over the past number of years, and it is projected that the number of female physicians will outnumber males by 2030. Hospitals in DOWNTOWN TORONTO are now pre-registering eligible patients, aged 80 and up, for the COVID-19 vaccine, as part of the Ontario COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout. Taking care of your skin in the winter โ๏ธ๐งโโ๏ธ is somewhat different than general skincare. As the weather becomes colder and drier ๐ฌ, your skin can develop or activate skin conditions that can cause major impacts on both your body and face.

โก Dermatitis: Cold weather in the winter can trigger inflammation of the skin and often causes dry, itchy patches all over the body.
โก Rosacea: This is a bacterial infection that causes small, red bumps and rashes. Rosacea tends to flare up during all kinds of extreme weather, including cold, wind and sun.
โก Psoriasis: An autoimmune disease that causes the body to produce large amounts of skin cells, scale-like patches on the skin. The cold, dry weather of winter can trigger psoriasis flare-ups in many people and cause discomfort.
โก Neurodermatitis: this is a common skin condition caused by excessive scratching usually brought about by having excessively dry skin due to excessive cold and improper skin hydration.
During the cold weather people who donโt have pre-existing skin conditions often still notice that their skin changes in the winter.

"Most people who become ill with COVID-19 will be able to recover at home. Some of the same things you do to feel better if you have the flu โ getting enough rest, staying well hydrated, and taking medications to relieve fever and aches and pains โ also help with COVID-19."โฃ

โฃ
In the current situation, antibody-containing plasma from a recovered patient is given by transfusion to a patient who is suffering from COVID-19. The donor antibodies may help the patient fight the illness, possibly shortening the length or reducing the severity of the disease.โฃ

In October 2020, the FDA approved the antiviral drug remdesivir to treat COVID-19. The drug may be used to treat adults and children ages 12 and older and weighing at least 88 pounds, who have been hospitalized for COVID-19. Clinical trials suggest that in these patients, remdesivir may modestly speed up recovery time.โฃ
โฃ
Other antiviral drugs are also being tested to see if they might be effective against the virus that causes COVID-19.โฃ

There is some evidence to suggest that vitamin D might help protect against becoming infected with, and developing serious symptoms of, COVID-19. We know, for example, that people with low vitamin D levels may be more susceptible to upper respiratory tract infections. One meta-analysis found that people who took vitamin D supplements, particularly those who had low vitamin D levels, were less likely to develop acute respiratory tract infections than those who didn't.โฃ
โฃ
Vitamin D may protect against COVID-19 in two ways. First, it may help boost our bodies' natural defense against viruses and bacteria. Second, it may help prevent an exaggerated inflammatory response, which has been shown to contribute to severe illness in some people with COVID-19.โฃ

Human Rights Day
Everyone in the world is entitled to the same fundamental human rights. There are 30 of them, in fact. They are the universal human rights that we, as citizens of this world, have agreed we are all entitled to. They include the right to live free from torture, the right to live free from slavery, the right to own property, and the right to equality and dignity, and to live free from all forms of discrimination.
