‼️ Our Health and Safety experts were recently at each of our facilities for Safety Week, educating us on the ins and outs of Life-Saving Behaviors and taking tours of our job sites. Take a look at some of the Stories they created last week and keep an eye out for more coming in the future👀

Today we’re starting out with another Life-Saving Behavior icon: Impairment. Remember:

🆘Don’t be afraid to intervene if you see substance abuse
🗣️Immediately report it if you suspect anything
💊Always report if you’re taking any Rx medication that could affect your performance
💤Sleep! Impairment from sleep deprivation is a serious issue on the jobsite

The Life-Saving Behaviour associated with this icon revolves around paying attention to your surroundings. When considering Line of Fire, remember:

📍Identify and control the danger zone
✋🏾Stay out of the danger zone if you can
👁️Make eye contact with others, especially drivers
🏃🏾‍♂️Plan an escape route from the danger zone

⚠️Today is the last day of Safety Week⚠️Let’s make sure we get in all our Life-Saving Icons. Today, we’re starting off with Safe Lifting. Remember:

☑️Double check that you are certified for your equipment
🏋🏼‍♂️Make sure your equipment can handle the load
👀Lifting needs to be supervised: no exceptions
🫷🏼Control access to all exclusion zones

Before we can behave safely, we need to know what we’re up against. Hazard Control is a crucial element of identifying and planning around dangers and is considered a Life-Saving Behavior.

Remember:
👀Be aware of potential hazards
🛠️Ensure your controls are in place
📄Review hazards often, especially before starting a new task
🛑Stop and reassess if anything changes

‼️ Competency is one of the most critical aspects of Life-Saving Behaviors‼️

Remember:

✅Make sure you’re qualified for your task
👷🏼‍♂️Confirm your competency with your supervisor
👍🏼Get authorization for your task before starting
🤷🏼‍♂️When in doubt, turn to your supervisor and your peers for help

Today we’re kicking off with another Life-Saving Behavior icon: Energy Isolation! Remember:

📄Know the isolation procedures for your specific job
👷🏿‍♀️Confirm with supervisor on the methods for isolation and discharge
✔️Verify, lock, and tag equipment for maintenance

Road safety is critical at all of our facilities. Remember:

👀Inspect vehicles before driving
📵Do not use cell phones while driving
⬇️ Always wear your seatbelt
🚗Drive defensively for the road conditions

Continuing with our Safety Week theme of Life-Saving Behaviors, today we’re covering Fall Prevention! Remember:

🚧Always work behind barriers when you can
👀Inspect and use fall prevention equipment
🪜Utilize three-point-contact when going up or down
📄Have a rescue plan

⚠️Time for another Life-Saving Behavior icon! ⚠️

This time it’s Overhead Power Lines. Remember:

⚡Always assume lines are energized
👀Verify voltage to determine work distances
👷🏿‍♀️Do not operate without a spotter
👇🏼If you need to contact the line, do not touch anything outside the vehicle while operating

When the deep, black tanks need cleaning, it’s time to put our Confined Spaces Life-Saving Behavior into effect! Remember:
✅ You must have a valid qualification, certification, and authorization
📋 Inspect all safety equipment (gas monitors, harnesses, rescue equipment, etc)
👷‍♀️Confirm with the supervisor that the space is safe to access
👷Confirm with the attendant that you can enter

We can’t forget about our marine workers! Remember:

🌊Know when it is required to wear a personal flotation device
🛟Always wear a personal flotation device when required
🏊‍♂️Wear the device as intended
📋Check whether the device is working properly and not damaged before use

Time for another Life-Saving Behavior icon! This time we’re talking about Excavation. Remember:

👷‍♀️ Confirm that trained personnel are on-site and involved
✅ Confirm with your supervisor that work is safe to begin
👀 Pay attention to any potential hazards
⚠️ Notify your supervisor if any changes need to be made to the excavation plan
