Here is the donation from South Hill Home! - 400lbs of food and a cheque! The company hosted an open house and asked everyone to bring food or donate cash. Wonderful neighbours we have in our community!

Many families close to where we live experience food insecurity.
As a volunteer at the Avenue Road Food Bank (ARFB) I see this every week. Our guests include people with jobs but who still cannot afford basic groceries. Some are recent refugees, seniors, families with children, post-secondary students. They include regular guests while others need temporary support.
CBC recently reported “as the cost of living skyrockets..nearly two million people..used food banks in March 2023 ...more than 78 per cent higher than in March 2019.”
We are asking for your help to address this growing need.

The Avenue Road Food Bank is pleased to share the news that it was nominated by the Daily Bread Food Bank for its Best in Class award for Outstanding Food Programme. The nomination “recognizes a community food agency in Toronto that has made significant efforts to implement best practises to provide services to clients with choice, dignity and respect. It embodies inclusivity with a volunteer cohort reflecting the community they serve, and actively creates a welcoming and supportive environment for clients.”

We said farewell to Elliott Shulman, our
Community Coordinator, who co- founded the Avenue Road Food Bank with Bob Mandel. Elliott has taken a position with another social enterprise organization, Oasis Dufferin, as Director of Peer-to-Peer programming. Elliott was one of the food bank leaders who guided us through the pandemic lockdown to ensure that we could remain open to distribute food to those who needed it. We send Elliott on to his new adventure with love and gratitude. His legacy of encouraging the Food Bank guests to overcome life’s challenges will be remembered. Many guests became volunteers and then, after establishing their studies and finding employment, were able to move on. Thank you Elliot Shulman for your dedication to the mission of the Avenue Road Food Bank.

The Avenue Road Food Bank, a Daily Bread food bank, located at the Church of the Messiah, 240 Avenue Road is open Wednesday afternoons between 3 pm and 6 pm.
