SAVAC stands, and has always stood, for movements for self-determination and struggles for freedom and justice around the world. We support all people who fight against settler colonialism, religious nationalism, and the erasure of the indigenous and the marginalized.

In the face of unprecedented yet continual military offensive, we see the resilience and the tenacity of the Palestinian people - from Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan, Jerusalem, to Gaza, Al-Lud, Hebron, Haifa, Bethlehem, and to the refugee camps and the diaspora scattered across the globe. We are in grief over the tragedy of killings, bombings and lynching but simultaneously, we are inspired by the growing collective energy to break down borders and stand in opposition to settler colonialism around the world.

We support artists, academics, and communities who work to de-code Zionist language that perpetuates the Israeli state project. In an era in which pro-Palestinian voices are censored on social media, in academia, and across the cultural sphere, SAVAC is renewing our commitment to the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement by not accepting funding or partnerships from the Israeli state, not including artistic programming funded by Israeli state institutions, and being mindful of our economic and consumer choices.

Here in Toronto and across Canada there is a long history of arts organisations working under the umbrella of BDS, and finding ways to resist the art-washing of the Israeli state.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind our colleagues of the call of the BDS movement which aims to end international support for Israel's oppression of Palestinians and pressure Israel to comply with international law. We invite our community in Toronto and beyond to think about the impact of our everyday choices and to work together to amplify the suppressed voices of Palestinian communities.

Just as we are continuing to deepen our understanding as settler colonial subjects on Turtle Island by taking leadership from Indigenous elders and communities, we need to do the same by centering voices from Palestine and their calls for resistance and solidarity. History is not that complicated.
