👏 Chih-Chien Wang 👏

"Miss Chief’s Wet Dream is a challenging painting for challenging times. An indictment of European hegemony and of our shameful past with First nations, it is also an opportunity for discussion and reconciliation. It will be on view at AGNS (Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in Halifax) until Nov. 11, and will be permanently installed in the gallery’s newly expanded First Nations Galleries in May, 2019."

A Toronto ce long week-end?
In Toronto this long week-end? Join us for the opening of Benjamin Klein from 3 pm to 6 pm. Discover some works featured in articles by Skene Cameron (Border Crossings).
"Klein moves beyond a figure-ground tension to probe more fundamental structures of both painting and experience. Appearing on wobbly horizons, the giraffe and tortoise, with their long and hemmed-in low views, call attention to the artifice of the perspective construction in painting, and to the full range of our situated points of view that convention was meant to symbolize. Horizons in Klein’s paintings are both pictorial and philosophical. They are lines from which the thinkable world advances and into which it recedes. They turn liquids into solids and masses into vapour, or, as in Highway’s canoe ride, both earth and sky into the enchanted container we are lucky enough to call home. » from Tammer El-Sheik, "Ben Klein at Pierre-François Ouellette art contemporain", Akimbo, 30 May 2018
"The works share a kinship with Doig, Henri Rousseau or Odilon Redon, painters for whom the landscape is more an arena of an embellished artificiality than a strict contemplation of sensory input from the outside world. From there, the beasts and pests of a more classical interiority struggle gently for dominance, and clues to painterly concerns emerge, suggesting but never completing the story, eventually dissembling into a non sequitur. In painting, as in life, there is no there there. » from Skene Cameron, "Benjamin Klein", Border Crossings, Volume 37, Number 3, Painting Issue, No. 147, p. 145
