Recently, YSM's Community Development team celebrated the women in our community who are part of the Women's Development Network (WDN). This group, which formed in partnership with YSM a decade ago, offered classes in catering, jewellery, sewing, childminding, gardening and beauty that evolved over time into small business opportunities for the women who participated. YSM has supported these women in skill development toward the creation of successful small businesses. YSM is now celebrating the WDN's launch from YSM as an independent community group—we will continue to be cheering these amazing women on in all that they do!

Meet Steve*, a single father and business owner who was lost in a maze of debt and overdue taxes. Facing social anxiety, literacy issues and chronic pain, Steve turned to alcohol to cope. His 20-year-old daughter, Alice*, reached out to YSM for help.
Steve was welcomed into YSM's care management program, where he received holistic, wrap-around support. Using our RISE model - Respond, Invite, Support, Engage - we addressed Steve's immediate needs, including offering access to healthy food and mental health support. We connected him with health practitioners, social assistance programs, addiction services and more.
With YSM’s help, Steve began to navigate his challenges, improve his mental health and regain his self-worth. Steve and his family are now on a path to breaking the cycle of poverty. Alice can focus on her own goals and dreams, creating a brighter future for their family.
