University College welcomes Dr. Temitope (Tope) Adefarakan to the Canadian Studies program in the position of assistant professor, teaching stream, Black Canadian Studies.

Tope holds a doctorate from the University of Toronto and uses a decolonial and equity-centered approach in her teaching, which is grounded in Black feminist and African Indigenous critical social theory.

The lectures will focus on the political activities of a dedicated cadre of Native militants organizing from the late 1960s to the early 1980s and how they perceived decolonization struggles of the “Third World”, largely to critique racial capitalism, patriarchy, and internal colonialism in Canada.
