It is time to introduce one of the new faces you will be greeted by when entering APPC ☺️ Let’s learn a bit about Jemma!

What made you want to get into healthcare?

I fell in love with biology and kinesiology in highschool and I had always wanted to do a profession that helped people so it became clear to me that the health field was the right fit for me. This led me to studying Health Sciences in University.
What do you do for self-care?

Draw/paint/create art, read, bike along the lake, hang out with friends, watch movies :)

What's your favourite form of exercise?

More recently cycling but I love playing soccer and hockey as well.

What's been your favourite neuroscience university course you've taken so far?

I took health sciences in university so I'm not sure if this is an error or not but I did take one neurobiology course that was really interesting.
My favourite Health Science course, however, was Developmental Origins of Health and Disease. It highlighted specific prenatal and postnatal experiences/exposures that can contribute to diseases or health issues later in life.

What's the most important thing you've learnt so far?

Don't leave your interests and passions in the past when they could be your future.

Welcome Jemma !!

We would like to introduce the newest member of our APPC Team, Christina! Let’s get to know her!

What made you want to get into pelvic floor physiotherapy?

I initially got introduced to pelvic floor physiotherapy while on placement as a student physiotherapist in a Maternity Hospital in Glasgow. Seeing how passionate the physiotherapy and midwifery staff were with their patients was so inspiring and seeing cute new born babies everyday was a definite perk! I learnt so much about pelvic health physiotherapy while on that placement and once I qualified I knew this was in an area that I wanted to learn more about. I did additional courses on pelvic health physiotherapy and was lucky enough to got a job in pelvic health physiotherapy soon after qualifying - I've never look back since!

What's your favourite form of exercise?

For self care, I love to bake, have a cheeky afternoon power nap, facetime my family back home and spend time with my fiancé.

What's been your favourite pelvic health course course you've taken so far?

My favourite pelvic health course that I've completed has to be Antony Lo's The Female Athlete course. He completely challenges your core beliefs and biases as a physiotherapist, but in a friendly non-judgemental environment. His expertise and teaching of how to train female athletes with pelvic floor dysfunction has been instrumental in my development as a pelvic health physiotherapist.

What is your favourite exercise?

My favourite form of exercise is probably Pilates on the reformer. It's so much fun and it doesn't feel like I'm working out - which is key!

What's the most important thing you've learnt in your career so far?

The most important thing that I've learnt in my career so far has to be to trust your gut and your instincts. When something just doesn't sit right, trust your gut, don't ignore it and try to do something about it - whether that be to better patient care, help out a staff member or better communicate with multidisciplinary members.

May is Bladder Cancer Awareness Month.

Bladder symptoms can be caused by many issues, such as pelvic floor dysfunction, but unfortunately bladder cancer can sometimes cause changes to bladder habits, including:
• Needing to go, with little or no results
• Having to go more often than usual
• Painful urination
• Difficulty urinating

With all of our patients we look for red flags and work with referring physicians to help ensure quality care. If you are experiencing changes in bladder function, please speak to your health care providers to ensure you are getting the right care and are seeing the right people.

With COVID many people are having more difficulties accessing care, please continue to watch for changes in your health. We are hear to help, and as always, will refer on if needed.

Concerned about your skin, gut health, pelvic health, sleep, stress, pain? Schedule a call!

05/14/2021

We would like to introduce our new Naturopathic Doctor Dr. Alisa Murli!

We asked her a few questions and would like to share them with you!

What made you want to get into naturopathy?

I actually didn't even know what a naturopathic doctor was when I stumbled across naturopathic medicine, however after reading about it I felt really connected to the treatment principles. After that, I applied to the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, got accepted and decided to pursue a career as a naturopathic doctor.

What do you do for self care?

I love to cuddle with my dog, go for a walk, curl up on the couch with a good Netflix show/movie.

What's your favourite form of exercise?

My favourite form of exercise is walking and/or running. I never thought I'd like running up until last year, but I love the endorphin rush!

What's been your favourite course you've taken so far?

My favourite course I've taken thus far has to be pelvic floor physio training with Pelvic Health Solutions.
(if you can pick)

What's the most important thing you've learnt in your career so far?

Gosh this is such a difficult question! I have learned so much since becoming licensed. If I had to choose one thing, it would be that it's okay to not be perfect at everything right away. Being an ND is not just being a doctor, but also being a part time marketer and administrative assistant (to yourself), and that can be difficult to manage at first. I'm still learning, but getting better everyday.

May is Mental Health Month, it is time to raise awareness more than ever!!

Physical behaviour and mental health are interconnected. All of our team treat using a biopsychosocial framework - it is so important that our clients are screened for both behavioural and mental health status to ensure optimal health is achieved.

Lets all make an effort to check in on our friends, family and neighbours to see how they are doing today and always. Sometimes a smile is all a person needs.

Stay safe and healthy friends

Happy Friday Everyone!

We would like to introduce Kam! She has been with APPC for 2 months now and she’s an amazing addition to our team!! Let’s get to know her!

What made you want to get into pelvic floor physiotherapy?

I did a thesis project during my Master’s of Physiotherapy on Pelvic health. Once exposed to the research, I felt enlightened and aware of my own pelvic floor. My interest peeked further when I took my first course through Pelvic Health Solutions with Nelly!

What do you do for self care?

I love facials, massages, pedicures and reading! Currently, with two toddlers at home all of the time, my self care has been walking the dog in nature and listening to audio books!

What's your favourite form of exercise?

I have always loved cycling.

What's been your favourite pelvic health course you've taken so far?

All of them! I would take every single one if I had the time. I love attending courses and constantly learning. The most recent one and relatable to my own experience has been the Labour and Delivery course!

(if you can pick) What's the most important thing you've learnt in your career so far?

Always come back to the basics-The Breath!

Happy Friday Everyone! We would like to introduce the newest member behind the front desk, Pooja! Let’s get to know her.

What made you want to get into healthcare?

From a young age, I knew I wanted to get into the healthcare field because of how interesting the human body is. I gravitated towards anything science-related. One of my favorite fields of medicine is dermatology. The science behind skin ingredients, the range of skin conditions, the importance of prevention, and how to properly take care of your body both internally and externally.

What do you do for self-care?

My style of self-care would be to make a DIY facial mask followed by a facial massage technique known as Gua Sha. As well as, indulging in some chocolates and watching a movie:)

What's your favourite form of exercise?

My favourite form of exercise is going to the gym to weight lift. However, this is equally tied to dancing. The style of dance that I learned was hip hop and Bharatanatyam. This is a classical Gujarati style of dancing where the emphasis is on your facial expressions with each movement.

What's been your favourite neuroscience university course you've taken so far?

While majoring in Neuroscience and Behavior, I became fond of the course Biological Bases of Behavior. The science behind your behavior tied to the physiological processes of how humans perform their daily activities is quite fascinating.

(if you can pick) What's the most important thing you've learnt so far?

"Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard" - Tim Notke

About Us

Advanced Pelvic Physiotherapy Centre is a physiotherapy practice specializing in pelvic care, located in downtown Toronto. Our team has extensive experience in treating both men and women suffering from pelvic pain, incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, among other issues. We also offer comprehensive care to women during pregnancy and in their post-partum period, men pre and post prostatectomy and other surgical care.

Pelvic pain is often a complex problem. The pelvic area is where we often hold our stress and tension. Anxiety, as well as our thoughts, attitudes and beliefs, can perpetuate pain in the area. By helping you to understand how your pain system works, we can reduce the threat of ongoing pelvic issues. To achieve this goal, our team uses a comprehensive biopsychosocial framework to evaluate and treat your concerns.

At Advanced Pelvic Physiotherapy Centre, we provide a first-line defence against pelvic floor dysfunction. We understand that all individuals have unique needs. We will conduct both subjective and objective evaluations to develop personalized treatment plans to help you meet your goals. We take great pride in collaborating with other health care providers to ensure patient-focused care. Ultimately, our goal is to help return your pelvic health to its optimal state and to allow you to live well again.
