One of my fabulous team members is having a birthday tmrw so with Bentley's help aka The Flower Centre , we are surprising her with a delivery of the most gorgeous sunflowers today!! 🌻🌻🌻 Thanks to the senior kindergartener, he helped me decide on how many bundles and we agreed more was better! 🌻🌻🌻 Shopping locally and at small businesses is the absolute best way to get more smiles in your day. 🌻🌻🌻

Today is National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Gender Diverse People (MMIWG2S), also known as Sisters in Spirit Day.
Today is a day to honour missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, and show support for their loved ones.
I have found the Assembly of First Nations website to be a really great place to learn more and to find out where and how I can help so if you're interested, please visit www.afn.ca ❤️. There is also a link on their website to download the Calls for Justice Progress report to see what has been done thus far to address this issue.
🖤 Indigenous women are four times more likely than non-Indigenous women to be victims of violence.
🖤 Indigenous women make up 16% of all female homicide victims, and 11% of missing women, yet Indigenous people make up only 4.3% of the population of Canada.
🖤 Indigenous women are twice as likely to experience violence from their current or former partner.
🖤 A little more than 13% of Indigenous people experience violence from their current or ex-partner, a proportion twice as high as non-Indigenous people (5.7%).
🖤 Indigenous women are more likely to experience physical and sexual assault than non-Indigenous women.
🖤 56% of Indigenous women have suffered physical assault, and 46% have experienced sexual assault. By comparison, about one-third of non-Indigenous women have suffered these assaults in their lifetimes.
🖤From 2001 to 2014, the average rate of homicides involving Indigenous female victims was four times that of those involving non-Indigenous female victims.
🖤 In the territories, this over-representation of Indigenous women among homicide victims was even higher.

He's agreed to do this as long as I do all the writing ... considering my penmanship is, for all intents and purposes, illegible, I don't think this is the best approach to take if we want to capture a year of emptynest memories. So the plan will be I will read the questions and he will take the notes since we wanna be able to look back on this in 50 years. 🩷🩷🩷
All kidding aside, I absolutely love this prompted journal that just requires us to take a few minutes a day to jot a few things down, based on a random question that ultimately will keep us connected and connecting. 🩷🩷🩷

Happiest of days to everyone hitting this incredible milestone this year!! This post today is specifically for my amazing Uncle Leonard who is turning 100 and to celebrate that, he went and got his drivers license renewed last month AND bought a new car!!
There's a huge party happening for him this weekend back home and while I can't be there in person, I know he'll be surrounded by the cajillion family members and friends that love him dearly. So happy birthday, Uncle Leonard and thank you for being one of the kindest humans ever ... clearly after 100 years, you just keep getting better at it!!

I am listening more, reading more, and aiming for greater understanding of our country's past and current role in the lives of Indigenous peoples. I have a lot of learning and listening to do. 🧡
