📢 Calling all undergraduate students!

🎓 The SCSU is excited to introduce the Course Relief Policy, a game-changer for those who choose to switch their program or major! 🌟 This policy allows you to exclude courses completed for your old major from your cumulative GPA and credit count in your new program.

🎯 Why is this important? It's simple: we want to support your success and ensure you can graduate in your new academic journey without being weighed down by grades from unrelated courses.

🚀 This means the freedom to explore your true passions and focus on what truly matters to you!

Join us in advocating for academic freedom and personal growth through our Put Equity in Academics Campaign.

Let's make sure your GPA reflects your current studies and gives you the opportunity to shine! ✨💪

For more information please reach out to your Vice President Academics University Affairs Afsana Miah at [email protected]

📣 Take charge of your academic future! 🎓✨

Hey UTSC, SCSU is determined to ensure the education offered at UTSC remains accessible to all students regardless of the circumstances. 🤪😎

SCSU is advocating for the "Credit/No Credit" policy extension as we recognize that it is crucial for students' success and well-being. By extending the deadline after final exam grades, we gain the ability to assess our performance and make informed choices. This empowers us, reduces stress, and creates an environment that promotes academic achievement. Transparency matters - knowing our final grades before deciding ensures fairness.

Let's unite and advocate for equitable academic choices that support our goals.

Join us in fighting for Equity in Academics by signing the petition 💪🏽🥳

Please scan the barcode or click the link in our bio to sign!

For more information about the Policy, please reach out to your VP Academics and University Affairs Afsana Miah at [email protected]

HI UTSC!!!! My name is Amrith David (he/him) and I am your President for the 2023-2024 academic year!

Get ready for an exciting year ahead as my INCREDIBLE team and I are working towards creating a positive impact on our campus. 🚀

As your President, my passion lies in ensuring that the current needs of our student body are being met all while creating a safe, accessible and inclusive space for all. This year I will be working on the student centre expansion project to ensure that clubs and student groups have a permanent space to operate for the years to come!!

I am thrilled to be working on various campaigns for the year in order to champion the causes that matter most to our diverse student community as well as introduce new accessible services within the SCSU that creates opportunities of growth for the students at UTSC. Together when the students are UNITED we can never be DEFEATED!!

If you have any questions throughout the year or if you would just like to make a new friend please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected]

07/04/2023

Good day everyone! My name is Denise Adjei Nmashie (she/her) and I am excited to be your Vice President Equity for the 2023-2024 academic year.

I am super excited to represent the diverse communities here at UTSC as well as uplift the intersecting identities here on campus. I plan to host effective programming that is approached through the needs of marginalized student populations right here on our campus. ✊🏾

This year I am working to combat the high drop out rate of Black identifying students here at UTSC. I am also leading our Mental Health Matters Campaigns, the United for Equity campaign and the Consent is MANDATORY campaign.

I am also SUPER passionate about introducing new bursaries for UTSC students to access through SCSU and I hope to be a resource for you all throughout this academic year. ❤️

I would like to reiterate that I am a walking resource and I would love the opportunity to connect with you all in regards to your experiences here at UTSC. Please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] if you would like to join me in making this campus equitable for all or even if you just need a friend to chat with 🫶🏿

Hey there, UTSC! I’m Akaash Palaparthy (he/him), your Vice-President Operations for the 2023-2024 academic year!

My job is to make your life easier and cheaper on campus. I want to offer you services that will boost your learning and fun here at UTSC ⚡

This year, I’m giving the 1265 Bistro a makeover with new menu items, affordable prices, a renewed arcade space and bright murals for you to enjoy with your friends and clubs. Let’s make UTSC a place where everyone feels welcome and connected! This is your home away from home, and I want you to love it.

Another exciting thing I’m planning for this year is the SCSU CoffeeHouse, where you can get free breakfast, coffee, and live music from UTSC students in the Student Centre. It’s the perfect way to start your day with some energy and entertainment.

But that’s not all. I also want to help you explore the amazing nightlife in downtown Toronto. That’s why I’m aiming to get you discounted tickets to hot events such as Raptors and Marlies games, comedy nights, concerts, and more. You don’t want to miss these opportunities to have fun and connect with other students.

Join me in making SCSU more accessible to all students here at UTSC. If you have any questions about part-time opportunities, cost-saving services, sponsorships or the student centre’s operations, feel free to email me at [email protected]

07/04/2023

Grreeetingsss UTSC!! I’m Afsana Miah (she/they) and I am excited to be your Vice President Academics and University Affairs for the 2023-2024 academic year!

As a student, I am aware of the needs for more efficient and accessible academic support here on campus. I am excited to take on this role to make sure that you all are supported through your academic journeys whether it is through representation and support in academic integrity cases, appeals and petitions or whether it is through advocating the higher administration here on campus for better student-friendly academic environments.

In addition, I am working on the implementation of various academic policies through our PUT EQUITY IN ACADEMICS campaign. I am lobbying and advocating the university administration to implement the CR/NCR extension after exam grades are out as well as advocate for the Course Relief Policy. This policy is for undergraduate students who switch their program or major. If you change your program, this policy lets you exclude the courses you completed for your old major from your cumulative gpa and credit count for your new program. The goal of this policy is to support you in successfully completing and graduating from your new academic program and ensure that students have the freedom to study what they’re truly passionate about. 🤓📚

I am thrilled to also be the liaison for all Departmental Student Associations here on campus. This year I hope to provide more support to our many DSA’s whether that is through space booking, funding or even support in organising events to uplift the academic and social journeys of UTSC students.

Representing the needs of all UTSC students is something I’m incredibly passionate about, so please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions regarding your academic journey here at UTSC at [email protected]!

07/04/2023

Heyyyyy UTSC!! My name is Khadidja Roble (she/her) and I am your Vice-President External for the 2023-2024 academic year!!

This year I will be leading the campaigns that matter the most to YOU the students. Whether that is to achieve and solidify a plan for FREE and accessible transit for UTSC students through the Universal-Pass or whether that is through advocating for the implementation of Co-op housing here on campus that is student-led and student-friendly.

I am an avid supporter of a sustainable campus and community and I truly believe that we the students have the power in numbers to make the necessary changes needed for a sustainable, inclusive and accessible campus 💚

I am also serving as UTSC’s representative this year on the Ontario Executive Committee for the Canadian Federation of Students, and I am eager to bring the concerns of UTSC students to that forum. This year on November 8th, I will be mobilizing and organizing students at UTSC for the National Day of Action. SO GET READY EVERYONE!! Students across Canada from coast to coast will take to the streets to protest for our fundamental rights which is access to free and accessible education 🗣️📣

If you have any questions or if you would like to get involved and participate in our campaigns for the year please feel free to contact me at [email protected]

Are we ready for the MOST EXCITING SCHOOL YEAR EVERRR? 🤩🤩🤩 This year I am thrilled to work on various events and programming that tap into the needs of our students. To begin with, I am spearheading SCSU’s annual Frosh and Orientation alongside my Orientation Coordinators to make it one for the books!! 📚 If you would like to be a part of the team, make sure to keep an eye out for the Group Leader/Logistic Leader application post coming soon 👀

I am AMPED to foster a sense of community for all students while creating more meaningful events (and socials) in the Student Centre where all students feel welcomed and connected together 🫶️🏼

I know that clubs are the centre of community here at UTSC, and therefore I am also working on amending our Clubs Funding Policy to create more streamlined access to resources for clubs here at UTSC. I aim to provide students with spaces to grow here on campus, whether that is through volunteering at the SCSU, participating in campus events or engaging with campus groups.

If you would like to get involved as a volunteer or if you have some awesome new ideas for events and programming, please feel free to reach out to me - the life of the party - at [email protected] 🥳

We come together with our Muslim Community in celebrating Eid-al-Adha. Eid-al-Adha is popularly known as the festival of sacrifice . It is celebrated in acknowledgment and in remembrance of the obedience of Prophet Ibrahim when God asked him to sacrifice his son. Today, many come together in celebration through prayers, and sharing of food.

The Scarborough Campus Students’ Union wishes everyone celebrating a blessed Eid-al-Adha.

Every June, we celebrate, recognize, and commemorate Indigenous History Month. As we begin our year-long terms, it is important for us to share our commitment to advocacy in solidarity with Indigenous communities and to recognize the role that we, as settlers, play in upholding colonialism.

We recognize the role the settler-state, “Canada,” has played in the oppression of Indigenous people and its continued violence. The effects of colonization play out through boil water advisories, the devastating impacts of residential schools, and environmental racism. Indigenous learners continue to face barriers in accessing post-secondary education and lack the necessary spaces for traditional learning and teachings in these colonial institutions.

We would like to encourage our settler members to learn more about this history and to reflect on their identities and position in upholding settler-colonialism.

We would like to celebrate the resilience of Indigenous students, faculty and staff, and community members. It is important to uplift and amplify Indigenous voices, not just this month - but every month.

If you would like to make a donation to support Indigenous organizations and communities, please visit SCSU’s Donations Hub webpage.

Keep an eye out for upcoming programming!

The SCSU would like to wish members a very Happy Pride Month 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈

The SCSU is proud to stand in solidarity with members of the 2SLGBTQAI+ community. Though Pride Month is widely recognized as a time for celebration, it is crucial to remember that pride first began as a riot.

Q***r and Trans-led uprisings by Black, Brown and other activist of colour-like the one at the Stonewall Inn in New York City, 1969-came as a response to incessant police harassment and brutality. Never forget that Trans and gender non-conforming folks made Pride as we know it today possible.

While we take this time to celebrate, there is always more work to be done. The SCSU continues to prioritize advocacy and education so that 2SLGBTQAI+ folks everywhere can lead lives free of discrimination and fear.

May is Asian Heritage Month!!

This month and every other month that follows encourages all Canadians to appreciate, experiences and learn about Asian culture and history.

SCSU celebrates and recognizes the contributions of Asian members of our community and how these contributions positively impact our student communities!
