Check out these photos from today's action with as the Labour movement across Toronto and York Region come together with students in solidarity with Palestine.

The students decided to depart the encampment today, "refus[ing] to give Toronto Police Service any opportunity to [be] brutalize[d], as they have done consistently since October to pro-Palestinian protesters" in light of yesterday's court injunction.

Solidarity!

We were honored to participate in yesterday's Ceremony commemorating Chinese Railroad Workers with the Foundation to Commemorate Chinese Railroad Workers in Canada.

It was a day to remember the mixed emotions many have across the country when it comes to Canada Day. Those in the Chinese community also call it “Humiliation Day” because in 1923, specific legislation was passed to exclude the Chinese and prevent them from entering Canada.

Let us honour the 17,000 Chinese workers who toiled to build Canada’s national railroad, and let us also honour the Indigenous Peoples whose land we live and occupy today.

Join the Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) "The Heat is On" Campaign to Fight Heat Stress at Work!

Extreme heat in the workplace injures, sickens, and even kills workers. The photo of record highs in a classroom were taken recently by members of Elementary Teachers of Toronto, and is just ONE example of dangerous levels of heat stress.

Ontario workers in all sectors need legislation for heat limits in the workplace. Heat stress will only intensify as our planet heats up, creating a workplace crisis within a climate crisis.

Take action and join the OFL's campaign for heat limit legislation now.

Tonight Labour Community Services and the Toronto & York Region Labour Council celebrated the 19th Annual Bromley Awards. This year featured the historic unveiling of the first ever Indigenous Rights Awards on National Indigenous Peoples Day.

Congratulations to all of the winners and nominees! More details to come!

06/21/2024

On National Indigenous Peoples Day, we recognize the plight of Indigenous Nations across Turtle Island for self-determination and justice. We stand with Indigenous members of our Council fighting for justice in the workplace and the many courageous Land Defenders across Turtle Island that protect Indigenous rights, the land and the environment.

To support the TRC's calls to action, we seek to uplift Indigenous voices in the Labour Movement through initiatives like our annual Indigenous and Workers of Colour Conference. Together with our partners at Labour Community Services, this year's Bromley Armstrong Awards will be historic, featuring Indigenous Rights Awards for the first time.

But there is still much work to done to further the TRC's calls to action. We call on the Labour Movement uplift Indigenous members and their voices to have a seat at the table. Let's make sure Indigenous are heard in the Labour Movement and beyond. Solidarity!
