As the solar eclipse of April 8th, 2024 approaches, we want to send a friendly reminder that looking directly at a solar eclipse is dangerous because the powerful light emitted by the sun can damage the cells in the retina of your eyes, leading to permanent vision loss or even blindness.

Sunglasses, even those with a very dark tint are NOT sufficient protection. Ensure your eyes are protected at all times by using special solar eclipse glasses that meet international standard ISO 12312-2 for safe viewing. Make sure that the glasses are not damaged or scratched before use!

Reminding you the importance of sun protection for this winter ❄️

1️⃣ Prevent serious ocular damage

It is advised to use sunglasses with UV400 protection all year round. Even though the sun sits lower in the sky during winter, the rays are still very strong and potentially harmful to our eyes. Outdoor areas with many light-colored surfaces will reflect more UV rays. This includes snow-covered ground and sun reflected off water. Sun exposure may increase your risk for conditions like: Cataracts; Growths on the eye, including cancer; Photokeratitis (including snow blindness).

2️⃣ Protective gear includes sunglasses & sun goggles

If you enjoy winter activities like skiing, snowboarding, hiking or ice climbing, make sure you add sunglasses or sun googles to your list of protective gear as UV exposure is stronger at higher altitudes. Polarized lenses help reduce glare which is especially helpful for skiers and snowboarders.

3️⃣ Easiest form of anti-aging

The surfaces of your eyes are sensitive to UV rays, just like your skin. This sensitivity makes you squint in bright light to protect them. The delicate skin around the eyes is particularly susceptible to UV damage, as it is thinner and more prone to wrinkling. Sunglasses protect your eyes not only from sun damage, but also squinting, which can lead to future "crow's feet" or wrinkles.

4️⃣ Go with your favorite colors!

Did you know that the color or darkness of the lenses don't make any difference in how well the glasses protect against UV rays? The protection actually comes from an invisible chemical on the lenses. So choose the tint that best suits your style!
