And exploring the intersection between the legal system and technology is the GPLLM and our Innovation, Law, and Technology concentration. Our one-year program at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law prepares professionals for the legal challenges posed by accelerating tech advances, an especially useful skillset during a tech boom. Thanks to everyone who joined us for our Female Leadership and The Law alumni panel. It was an engaging and informative discussion, with thoughtful questions from our moderator Professor Mariana Mota Prado from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, and candid responses from our esteemed alumni. Thank you to our participants, Julie Di Lorenzo, Ghayda Nassar, and Hyunju (Crystal) Park, to Professor Prado, and to our admissions team who organized this special panel.
This Thursday, Ghayda Nassar will be among the graduates participating in our Female Leadership and The Law alumni panel.
A graduate of our Innovation, Law, and Technology concentration, Ghayda had considered starting a consulting business prior to entering the GPLLM program. She sensed a gap in the market where many people working in tech lacked substantial legal knowledge, and vice versa.
Since receiving her Global Professional Master of Laws degree from University of Toronto Faculty of Law, Ghayda has founded Liberty Cybersecurity & Privacy Awareness and Consulting, specializing in the laws and regulations surrounding cybersecurity and online privacy and bridging the gap between technology and the law.
Be sure to reserve your space for Thursday's special panel discussion to hear more from Ghayda about her experience in the GPLLM.

“Some commentators claim that big tech is responsible for a variety of social and political harms, such as inequality and degradation of free speech and democracy,” writes Daniel Sokol, Professor of Law at the USC Gould School of Law and Anthony Niblett, faculty member at the GPLLM and University of Toronto Faculty of Law, and Canada Research Chair in Law, Economics and Innovation, in a recent paper. “These are not harms that competition authorities were designed to cure.”

GPLLM Class Spotlight: Applied Contract Law
Contracts structure relationships and define rights while setting expectations and reinforcing trust. The law of contracts has developed over centuries and can be highly technical. This course, offered in our Business Law concentration, looks past the details of contract law doctrine and focuses on general principles as they apply to real world problems, for example:
- Is there a binding contract when you click “I agree” on a software license agreement?
- What happens when neither party is following the terms of an outdated contract?
- Can an employer keep sexual harassment claims out of court with arbitration clauses?
This course is led by Professor Anthony Niblett, Associate Professor University of Toronto Faculty of Law and Canada Research Chair in Law, Economics, & Innovation, and Sonja Pavic, Associate, Litigation, at Osler.
Have you taken this course? Let us know in the comments.
Michael Liebrock, Managing Director at The Stronach Group and a GPLLM alum, shares the advice he received from a previous grad of our program that helped him decide to pursue his Global Professional Master of Laws at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law.
