...This is a time when many people are feeling many things. Many people right now have one strong negative emotion or another. It might be fear, it might be anger, it might be depression, it might be anxiety. Most people are feeling something in this climate of change, instability and volatility.

It is also a climate that is fostering a focus on our differences more than anything else. The news seems to be laser focused on that and we are absorbing it.

If you were to ask anyone right now, they would give you their perspective on what is going on and why with some articulating confusion. The perspectives are as multi-faceted and limitless as the people.

It does not seem like it's a time of coming together, but a time of coming apart.

It's a time of reckoning.

I don't think anything new is coming to the surface. It is more about what is being exposed. The mask is off. You are who? What do you believe in? Who and what do you turn to in times of uncertainty?

I know one thing. This moment is reflecting a mirror to all of us.
There is an unrelenting mirror in our face revealing to us what we truly believe, what we truly stand for and what we truly stand against.

Maybe that is what needs to happen for healing to begin. It is a common fact that a problem that is not faced cannot be solved. The first step for an alcoholic to overcome her addiction is to admit she has a problem. For so long we have been denying that a problem exists.

We can't do that anymore.

This is also a time when a smile, an expression of kindness and introspective reflection is very important. Make sure to practice self-care. Whether it is counselling, meditation, going for a walk...
Anything that makes you feel calm and supported. And maybe just maybe, before you do that, turn the news off first.
