Meet 11-year-old me. She has a lot to say.😉 This is an image of me that reflects the Part of me that has needed my nurturing.

This “little me” was highly aware of everything happening around her, and she struggled with anxiety, anxious attachment, perfectionism, obsessive-compulsive thinking, and low self-esteem.

I used to describe myself as an “odd,” “difficult” and “overly-sensitive” kid.

The truth is, I did not like her very much.

Healing came for me in learning to appreciate how sensitive and caring I was at that age, and how I had a lot of wisdom packed into a tiny body. Learning to appreciate those things in her has helped me to appreciate those same things in me today.

I had some of the most incredible moments in childhood that I truly cherish, and there were also Parts of me that suffered.

I think so many of us can relate to this on some level.

If it often difficult to have Compassion for the Parts of ourselves that struggle. We have so many Parts of ourselves that we do not like, and shove into the depths of our internal closet.

Finding pictures of ourselves in the difficult eras of our lives can be a good practice in Self-Compassion. We will often notice our Inner Critics immediately charge forward to shame that version of us. Yet, every single version of us still lives in us and comes out to play, most often uninvited (and whether we like it or not😉).

Learning Self-Compassion is the way to heal all Parts of ourselves.

We can ask ourselves these questions:

➡️What does this Part of me need to know?

➡️What does this Part of me need to hear?

➡️What does this Part of me need that he/she/they did not receive?

Sending you all love in your healing journeys ❤️

⁣Low self-esteem is all about how safe we feel in relationship with other humans.

What will others think of me? Am I enough in comparison to others? Will they judge me? Will they hurt me? Will they leave me?

Will they just further prove that I am not “enough”?m

And so, we build so much armour of protection because we do not feel safe with others.

If you want to build a better relationship with yourself, and you want to learn to work with you Inner Critics so that you feel safer, both within yourself and in your relationships…. Then check out my page for my upcoming course “Befriending Our Parts: A 6-Module Course To Build Self-Esteem and Self-Compassion.”

How comfortable are you with starting over?❤️

01/20/2024

So often, my clients express their frustration because they SAY the compassionate things to themselves, and yet they do not FEEL it. Instead, they feel what Tara Brach calls the “Trance of Unworthiness.”

This is because just SAYING, “I am enough” is unfortunately not enough. We need to FEEL it. It is a felt sense of WORTHINESS, and a felt trust in our CAPACITY to do good things and to be able to get through the hard times.

So many of us live in our heads, especially when we have strong INNER CRITICS and/or have experienced trauma. We cope by disconnecting from our bodies.

You see, our brains create these snapshots of the really hard emotional memories, and store it to protect us. When we struggle with our Self-Esteem and Self-Compassion, we have a lot of feeling memories associated with unworthiness and failure.

To heal means to rewire and to create feeling memories around worthiness and capacity, and to feel safer connecting to your body.

A great starting place is to think of a person you love and feel what that feels like in your body. Notice if you feel a sense of warmth? A feeling of grounding? A sense of calm in your chest or abdomen?

Then, imagine what it would feel like to connect to your Self, and to feel your worthiness and capacity. One of the most useful tools we have as humans is imagination, and this helps us to embody what it would be like to FEEL “enough.”

You can also think about a time when you felt proud of yourself, even if for only a moment. This will allow you to tap into the FEELING of it. And if it feels ok for you, STAY WITH that feeling and allow it to sink in.

What does it feel like for you to feel “enough”?

01/18/2024

Let’s talk about our Inner Critics…

Your Inner Critics have a very limited memory storage that is based on when their neural network was first formed. For example: My Inner Critic -The Perfectionist- developed when I was about 10 years old. And so, when it hijacks the driver’s seat, I am operating as a 10-year-old.

Over time, our Inner Critics get louder and stronger. And -let’s be honest- they get ruthless.

What is important to note is that they have really good intentions. These Inner Critic parts in you are trying to keep you safe from rejection and failure. Sadly, they do not have the capacity to realize that what they are doing is not helpful.

You can imagine your Inner Critic like a child who fears being judged by another child, so he/she/they takes the preemptive strike and calls the other child a “loser”. You see, it is not actually helpful at all. Yet, the child -in his/her/their attempts to self-protect- feels determined that this is the ONLY way to survive.

A really helpful question you can ask is, “What is my Inner Critic not able to see right now?”

This allows you to see the bigger picture outside of the little dot that your Inner Critic is focused on.

Give it a try. And, let me know how it goes!❤️

01/17/2024

If there is not already a “just be you” day, let’s make today that day. And tomorrow. And the next day. And all the days after that. Sound good?

I offer to each of you today and every day a bouquet of flowers to say, “Thank you for being you.”❤️

Plesse share this with someone you love.

As always, a loving reminder to just be you, whatever that means to you today. Next week, that might mean something different to you. And when the world feels hard, it is a gentle whispering to come back your True Self and to offer all Parts of yourself the grace, love, time and compassion that you need & deserve

Sending you love.❤️

My course “Befriending Our Parts: A 6-Module Course to Build Self-Esteem & Self-Compassion is coming in two weeks - on January 31st!

I love being a therapist. And, I am also highly aware of the privilege of being able to afford therapy or have benefits for therapy. It has always felt really important to me to help in a way that is affordable and effective. I created this course based on my experience in the field of psychotherapy for the last 2 decades, and it is made of pure love, sweat and some tears 😉.

This course will take about 20-25 hours to complete with 15 hours of presentation, 1000 slides that you will have to keep, prompted writing and reflection exercises, and guided practices. It is encouraged to take anywhere from 7-14 weeks to complete (and you can take longer).

The truth is, we all deal with self-esteem challenges to some degree. And you likely know how much it affects you. It is really really really hard to feel “not enough.”

And so, I offer you my online course that you can do wherever feels good for you.

You can visit other posts on my profile page for more details. You can also visit my course platform that will be up-and-running January 17th.

I originally made the price $249 Canadian. However, after consulting with 3 course marketers, I have since learned that the actual value is more like $999 USD.

Nonetheless, I am still planning to offer the course at this low price until the end of February. I want to honour the price I originally posted, and sell it to my clients and you at this lower price before increasing the fee.

Follow for more details.❤️

Sounds strange and it is true!

Clients always tell me that they go on auto-pilot and struggle to find a moment to check in.

The bathroom is the one space, we are most likely, unless we have little ones running around, to be able to get a moment to ourselves.

And so, I love to suggest this as a moment to check in with yourself and all your Parts several times per days.

It is a moment to befriend yourself and offer yourself compassion.

It is a moment to say to yourself whatever any Part of you needs to hear.

It is a moment to offer yourself the love you are needing.

It is a moment to validate your feelings or to say, “This is hard.”

It is your moment. And hopefully, as you will need to go to the washroom many times per day, you can continue to use it as a little check in.😉

What do you think?❤️

We spend so much time judging, fearing and getting frustrated with the Parts of ourselves we do not like. And, while it’s natural to feel strong emotions when we want these parts to change, trying to “get rid of” these Parts simply does not work.

Try this alternative. It is an act of Self-Compassion. And let me know your thoughts and experiences in the comments 👇❤️

Taylor Gendron (.gendron ), an amazing holistic nutritionist specializing in anxiety (and who is very open about the therapeutic work that we have done together) asked me to be the first guest on her new podcast. We had a great conversation about our therapeutic boundaries (as we still have a few sessions per year) prior to me agreeing to be a guest on her podcast to talk about .

What I really appreciate about Taylor’s podcast is that she does not edit out parts, and so everything we said is shared. With this being my first podcast experience, I did not have the right microphone, and would hear Taylor’s voice come in later than it did - occasionally speaking over her. I could feel my inner critics wanting to pipe up and yet I was was able to ground them. In the end, we made it work and had a good laugh about our Inner Critics afterward.

In this podcasts, we discuss boundaries in the context of trauma, personal needs, anger, anxiety, mental health, self esteem, relationships, attachment theory, protective parts, holiday stress, and a made-up-on-the-spot 5 step process to boundary setting.

Such an honour, truly, and a beautiful learning experience. I will be back on her podcast next month to talk about Disordered Eating ❤️

Why am I not a fan of New Year’s resolutions? Let me tell you.😉

When we struggle with our self-esteem, New Year’s resolutions become a pass or fail. They create this all-or-nothing form of thinking, where our worth is imbedded in the degree of our success. And, typically, we do not give ourselves much credit if we partially meet our goal, as it nonetheless feels like a failure.

And so, New Year’s Resolutions are not good for Self-Esteem

Instead, I love setting INTENTIONS. There is a lot of power in believing in ourselves, as this reinforces our sense of empowerment!

And, I personally love to choose a WORD that reflects the value I feel is important to focus on for the year.

This year, I have chosen the word “Love,” as this is what I want to return to over and over and over again. With everything happening in this world right now, this value feels more important than ever.

And so, for 2024, I choose to move forward from a place of LOVE. And I will kick it off by sending you all lots of LOVE for the New Year.

What is your word for 2024?❤️🎉
