"The Bardolino Chiaretto 2022 from Gorgo is delicate in its aromatic expression but endowed with a saline, juicy palate of great pleasure. The territory extending south of the Garda basin consists of gentle hills rising a few dozen meters from the surrounding plain, dotted with vineyards alternating with wooded areas, orchards, and arable land. Here, Roberta Bricolo operates, leading a splendid organic farm that can rely on a 50-hectare vineyard platform, largely occupied by grapes destined for the historical denominations of the territory, Custoza for whites and Bardolino for reds."

A fresh, fun and fruity rose from the Veneto region of Italy. Made from the classic grapes of the region; Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara. Bright pink in colour, with delicious aromas of berries, grapefruit and wildflowers. The palate continues to show these summer fruits with elegant mineral notes and a lovely texture due to 3 months of ageing on fine lees. Red fruit flavours are ripe, with an abundance of cherries, strawberries and raspberries combined with a fresh, floral note and a crisp acidity. The Chiaretto can be drunk on any occasion, with starters, first courses and pizzas, summer vegetarian dishes, seafood and shellfish salads, grilled fish and meat, young cheeses.

Nice feature spread in the latest LCBO Vintages magazine. The Nals Margreid 2022 HILL Pinot Grigio is back! Available at LCBO Vintages stores starting Saturday, May 11.

Based in the Alto-Adige region of Italy, neighbouring the spectacular Dolomites, the vineyards continuously dazzle the eye as they cascade down steeply terraced slopes toward waves of vibrant apple orchards. Located in the town of Nals, about a 17 minute ride from Bolzano, you'll find the impressive Nals Margreid Winery.

This exciting co-operative cellar came out of the union, in 1985, between two well-established operations, Cantine Nalles, founded in 1932, and Magre-Niclara, founded in 1954. The result is a group of 140 members who cultivate a total of 150 hectares. Nals Margreid is still undergoing impressive changes with energy radiating from the cellar designed by architect Markus Scherer. Every year, the winery style is acquiring better definition and territorial character, thanks to the skill and painstaking efforts of cellarmaster Harald Schraffl. No shortcuts here: progress is based on hard work and respect. Harald oversees the operation with meticulous attention to preserving tradition from the past and innovation into the future. The winery employs sustainable methods wherever possible. It means no herbicides. Pests and diseases are mitigated through eco-friendly techniques. No use of animal products.

The vineyards of Nals Margreid are distributed over 14 wine growing areas in South Tyrol (or Sudtirol), from Nals, a small town in the north between Merano and Bolzano, to Margreid in the south. These areas vary greatly in their micro climate and soils, as well as elevations that range from 650 feet to 3000 feet. Don't let the northern location fool you-this region enjoys average of 300 sunny days each year. Warm currents from the Mediterranean arrive from the south, colder air from the north is blocked by the main ridge of the Alps. The result is a significant change in temperature between day and night, allowing the grapes to develop a great balance between fruity ripeness and crisp acidity.

Had a great tasting with Chiara Ferraris, whom we started working with this past year.

The pillar of their portfolio is the Sant' Eufemia Ruche DOCG. Ruche is an indigenous varietal, specifically from Monferrato Piedmont that you probably haven't heard of. Ferraris have been growing Ruche grapes for three generations. We also tasted the

ITA walk-around tasting. Tasted some impressive Lugana wines.

ABOUT SASSO DI SOLE
The Terzuoli family has been involved in the production of wines since the 17th century, passing down wisdom and experience. The family has always personally managed the production of the grapes, the vinification and the refinement of the wine to guarantee the highest quality in every bottle.

Located within the Val d’Orcia park and part of the Unesco World Heritage system, the estate is divided into seven distinct vineyard parcels. The plots lie between 280-302 meters above sea level and enjoy optimal southerly exposure and the rocky sloped hillsides allow for excellent drainage.  Soils are peppered with shale, rocks and minerals which date to the pliocene age.

 Proprietor Roberto Terzuoli is meticulous at every stage of his craft.  From repeated green harvesting to vigorous final selection, the family is committed to producing wonderful wines at various price points.  After hand harvesting, the grapes find their way to the new barrel aging cellars where traditional methods are employed.  Rosso and Brunello are vinified in stainless steel and then aged in combination of 35 and 50 hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels.

I like the honesty and transparency, a wine without artifice, just healthy, high quality grapes transformed simply into engaging wine. There's still quite a lot of tannic grip and grit, and a mineral-saline quality that frames the flavours, while acids are comfortably ripe but firm. It's a traditional style through and through, a genuine Sicilian expression, drinking now (decanted, with salty protein), or cellerable another 4-7 years I'd estimate, given the structure. Villa Russiz was born in 1868. Today, it is a foundation that consists of more than 40 hectares of vineyards DOC Collio, where great wines are produced. Villa Russiz Winery is located in the Collio DOC landscape, Friuli Venezia Giulia region, in northeast Italy, 100 km from Venice. The Foundation Villa Russiz was established in 1869 by the French Count Teodoro de LA Tour along with his Austrian wife, Countess Elvine Ritter, who dedicated herself to assist needy children founding a charity home, which is still going on today!

☆Balbiano 2021 Freisa Di Chieri Frizzante DOP☆

You've tasted Barbera and Nebbiolo from Piedmont, but how about Freisa?? In our ongoing efforts to source unique indigenous varietals, we offer up this bright gem. Delicious as an aperitivo, light and fruity with a slight spritz, serve gently chilled. Perfect with soft cheeses or dishes with a spicy kick.

Luca Balbiano has taken up the reigns from his father, Francesco, following the family tradition, becoming the third generation of producers. The Balbiano family has been instrumental in bringing Freisa Di Chieri into the collective consciousness.

"One of the more unique set of wine circumstances is found in this Piedmontese red because it's made from the relatively rare freisa and it's "frizzante" which means just slightly fizzy. Not "technically" a full on sparkling wine but some pressure is captured inside and you will feel a slight buzz or carbonated feel. Highly unique, not quite Lambrusco but not a perfectly still wine either. This is the secco or dry iteration (as opposed to "amabile"or sweet kind) and you will notice the drying of tannins present upon the very cherry and light to medium bodied frame. Chill it and spill it. There's plenty of joy to be had, especially with salty hard cheeses and Piedmontese salami."-Michael Godel
