The deadline to nominate a TFS alum for an Alumni of Distinction Award is fast approaching. Do you know a TFS graduate who is making a difference in their career and in the world? Nominate them for an Alumni of Distinction Award by May 31, 2024.
Winners in 2024 will join the ranks of past recipients, including award-winning advertising executive and dedicated philanthropist, Justin Poy ’87. President and Creative Director of the Justin Poy Agency, Justin has extensive experience in developing and creating innovative marketing campaigns targeted towards Asian markets in Canada and abroad. An established leader in the Chinese Canadian community, he sits on a number of boards and was presented with the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 for his community service and philanthropy.

Thinking of nominating someone for the Alumni of Distinction Awards but not sure where to start?
We’ve put together a breakdown of the key elements to your nomination:
Complete Nomination Form: Be sure to fill out all questions on the nomination form with as much detail as possible. Focus on the impact of the nominee's actions and achievements.
Resume or Nominee Bio: Please include the nominee's most recent resume, or if you are unable to provide this, a one-page biography outlining their career and personal achievements is sufficient.
Letters of Support: Please include up to 2 letters of support from community members that can help illustrate the impact of the nominee’s accomplishments and contributions.
Ask for help: TFS can provide assistance with preparing the necessary documentation for nominations. If you have any questions, reach out to us at [email protected]

As we approach the nomination deadline for the Alumni of Distinction Awards, the TFS Alumni Relations team is taking the time to highlight some of our past recipients. Today we focus our attention on Nancy Cohen ’78.
Nancy started volunteering with TFS as a student, taking part in a variety of initiatives over a number of years until her graduation in 1978. In the decades since, Nancy has remained a dedicated volunteer in a myriad of ways. Some of her many contributions include fostering the Terry Fox Run as a fun and important event at the school, acting as co-chair of Kermesse, co-founding the Alumni of Distinction Awards, serving as President of the Parents’ Association, sitting on multiple event committees, playing a vital role in the creation of the TFS Archives, and providing valuable guidance as a member of the TFS and the TFS Foundation boards. Recognizing her decades of support to TFS, the school was honoured to present her with the inaugural prix du service distingué Nancy S. Cohen in 2023.
The greatest measure of success for TFS is its students and what they achieve as TFS alumni. Help us celebrate our incredible alumni by nominating a classmate – or making a self-nomination – for one of our three Alumni of Distinction Awards.

It is with sadness that we inform the community of the passing of former TFS teacher Sylvia (Sylvie) Frankian on February 17, 2024, at the age of 89. She is survived by her son Diran/Dan Frankian (Jane) and daughter Marion Frankian (Kevin), as well as her granddaughter Alexa.
A citizen of Lebanon of Armenian background, she graduated from Université de Lyon in education and then moved to Canada, where she began teaching the primary grade levels at TFS in 1977, remaining with the school for 23 years. Described as very involved in student activities, she was also considered a supportive colleague.
The funeral for Mme Frankian will be held at St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Catholic Church this Saturday and members of the TFS community are welcome to attend.
We offer our sincere condolences to her family.
