BREAKING: Human Rights Watch launches World Report 2024 - rights trends in 100+ countries around the globe. https://bit.ly/48KuEUT
Wishing you all a healthy, happy, and peaceful new year! With love, HRW Canada 💙💙💙💙
Today we recognize the reality of Canada’s colonial history and systemic injustices. First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children were uprooted from their families and homes across Turtle Island into the Indian Residential Schools designed to systemically strip them of their culture and indoctrinate them into the colonial state.
Since the Truth and Reconciliation commission released its report and calls to action in 2015, little has changed for Indigenous Nations and communities. We use the terms truth and reconciliation pervasively and loosely, and as settlers on this land, we ought to contemplate how we are truly contributing to meaningful change and solidarity.
Let us build upon this day and thoughtfully acknowledge that this country must be held responsible for the systemic violence that continue to impact innocent lives.
