📢King’s Sutton Beekeeping Project: UPDATE!
As part of our drive to increase biodiversity, King’s Sutton Parish Council has facilitated the formation of a King’s Sutton beekeeping group, and is applying for grants for hives on land behind the current cemetery, which is part of a larger plot purchased recently by the Parish Council for the new cemetery extension.
The plan is to maintain the northern part of the area as a meadow with a hedge separating it from a more formal area where burials will take place once the existing cemetery is full (see plan).
The suggested location for the beehives is the northern east corner of the meadow with a shed at the opposite end, screened with hedging to house the beekeeping equipment
Access will be through a gap in the current hedge. As well as being home to the beehives the area will be available for the scattering of cremated remains with the opportunity for residents to purchase a memorial tree for planting .
The meadow will be accessible to all residents as a place where people may go for quiet contemplation and reflection.
It’s really important that the Parish Council is providing a facility of which residents approve, please feel free to comment below and add any suggestions of your own.
It is hoped that the meadow will be prepared this autumn and hives will be in place in the Spring of 2025.

🦇 this weekend 24th-25th August🌙
As the sun sets and the evenings stretch longer, our gardens become a ballet stage for the silent, swift dancers of the night sky—bats! Representing a third of mammals in the UK, bats are essential indicator species for ecosystem health as top predators of night-flying invertebrates.
Did you know? The UK is home to 18 species of bat, and the TVERC database holds over 46,000 records of these fascinating creatures.
👀 Have you spotted any bats recently?
If you’re new to bat surveying, the Bat Conservation Trust Sunset Survey is the perfect opportunity to start! You don’t need to be an expert—all you need is a love for nature and a keen eye. Whether from a balcony or by a window, your observations can contribute to the conservation of these essential species.

Join the survey and share your findings with the community. Happy bat spotting 🦇✨

London is set for a week of high temperatures🌡️
The heat can be challenging for our city's wildlife, so let's help them stay cool. Here are some simple ways you can support wildlife at home in the hot weather:
✅ Provide enough water
✅ Top up the bird bath and feeders
✅ Provide enough cover from the sun
✅ Top up your pond
✅ Keep 'messy' areas of the garden
