Lifting heavy isn’t for everyone…. Only for those who want stronger muscles, increased metabolism, improved bone density, a change in body composition, better quality of life. If you think any of these benefits is for you, you can do it!! It takes time to build up to heavy weights, and training in good technique is essential, but it’s never too late to start. #liftheavy #fitover50 #personaltrainer

Fit dog = fit owner. Grab the leash and your headphones and get a brisk walk in - especially on rest days! Try my playlist for a good walking beat (no judgement allowed). https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4GbrbcQP9eb2mwm0wU8bH7?si=dR0-ODfnR-KbzWIbho6EcA Fave walking song right now - Blue Monday by New Order. Add your fave in the comments and I’ll try it out on my next walk! #walkwalkwalk #feelthebeat #personaltrainer #nutritioncoach #fitover40

The Endless Rope Machine works so many upper body muscles - but it really dials in on your shoulders, middle back and biceps. In this case I’m really trying to focus on engaging my lat muscles. I’m using these sets for strength training so it’s set at 6 (max is 7) and I’m counting 40 pulls. Set it between 1-4 and go non-stop for 10 minutes. Super sweaty and great cardio!! #backandbicepsworkout #backday #strengthtraining #fitover40 #personaltrainer

Goals take grit. It’s been a goal of mine to slalom ski for two summers and it finally happened. What you don’t see are the many(so many) falls that took place over the last couple of seasons to get to this point. It took some great coaching, a few pro tips, and a little nerve to get back up and keep trying. Building muscle memory takes time and that’s what I was doing all those times I tried and failed. Learning and focusing and trying again. And getting lots of water up my nose. On to the next goal of learning to cut across the wake! Goals make fitness fun. Set a new goal, build a plan for support, and find the grit to make it happen. And let me know how I can help! #goalstakegrit #fitnessgoals #summerfitness #watersportsfun #personaltrainer #fitover40

Ah the mighty hamstring! You don’t even know it but you use this muscle every day in so many ways - walking, running, jumping to name a few! A strong hamstring protects the ligaments in your knees - especially the all important ACL! This has always been my favourite hamstring move. It’s a tough one - the key is a super tight form to protect the lower back, and resist the drop as long as possible! #hamstringhelp #goodform #personaltrainer #fitnessjourney #fitover40

So great to get back to the gym today! Headed straight for the rack and started leg day with a round of back squats. Love this move to warm up with no weight on the bar, then slowly progressing the weight to really get pumped up for the rest of my workout. Notice how the bar is in line with my ankles the whole time - a really key part of the technique. Personal training is a great way to learn the right technique and develop life long habits for great fitness! #backtogym #fitover40 #personaltrainer #backsquatsforbreakfast #fitnessjourney

So proud of the technique @mkbrophs has developed over the last year. Virtual training takes great communication and focus and Meaghan brings it every time.- today showing her DB chest fly chops! Meaghan’s gains have been awesome because she has learned how to zero in on the muscle and dig deep. #personaltrainer #cliebtlove #fitbessjourney #weightlifting #virtualtraining

I was inspired to continue my progression to pistol squats by watching someone at the gym completely nail them! So I tried rocking back in and using a band for support. Lots of work to do to find my center of gravity, but getting better. The band allows me to take more risk - and to fall on my butt without any pain (except to my pride if you care to watch to the end!) Respect to the incredible nameless woman for the inspiration! #fitover40 #progressnotperfection #trainforlife #personaltrainer #loopbandtraining #fitnessgoals

Chest and back conditioning today. It’s all about muscle endurance and complex movement. These is one of of my faves. Band push up plyo’s improve upper body explosiveness and my regular push up endurance. Conditioning weeks have big, sweaty workouts that burn lots of calories and have so many benefits to daily activities! #trainforlife #fitover40 #conditioningtraining #personaltrainer #challengeyourself

Handstand push-up progress update! I thought I was going to have to find a new goal this year. Had some tenderness in my shoulder and took a rest, followed by very intentional lifting to build up the support my joints need to withstand the weight. Several months later here we are, not a fully upright handstand but the head is getting lower and my shoulders are handling the weight and (this is key) being able to push me back up! I have 2 months left to get this and I’m optimistic that I’m in the right physical condition to do it! Stay tuned for more! #fitnessgoals #fitnessjourney #injuryprevention #recoveryispossible #handstandpushupprogression #personaltrainer #fitover40 #goafterypurgoals

The move of the day, brought to you by the letter S (as in sitting and sedentary) and the number 10 (the hours per day the average Canadian is sedentary), is the Back Fly. The intention behind this move today is to counteract all the time I spend in front of screen and keep my posture strong. There are so many ways to attack this move - using plates today to go after the muscles that tend to weaken with hours a day in front of a laptop. Tight core and flat back are essential in this move to protect the lower back and keep the move in the right muscle groups. My sequence today was 3 sets of 10 reps which I completed 3 times. #personaltrainer #postureexercises #posturepolice #sedentarylifesucks #fitover40 #moveoftheday

My first heavy lift since the first lockdown and only 20 lbs off my PB. It goes to show that with the right fitness routine and nutrition you can build and maintain with a little home gym equipment. Walking the walk is important to me as a trainer. I want to always be on a path to be challenged in my fitness, and to learn and grow like my clients. #liftingafterlockdown #liftingafter40 #fitnessjourney #fuelyourfitness #personaltrainer #lifetimelearner

Part of staying youthful is living like you’re young. I love that fitness parks (adult playgrounds) are popping up everywhere. Everyone there is super friendly because everyone came to play! And there aren’t many places to duplicate these kinds of movements. If you haven’t been active or keeping your joints and muscles strong and flexible, use the lower equipment and slowly work your way up to the higher bars. A great way to work and play at the same time! #monkeyingaround #fitover40 #personaltrainer #foreveryoung #fitnessjourney #workhardplayhard

If you want to get good at something you’ve got to put in the work. That’s where this little golden nugget came in. The golf impact bag is a little golden bag of joy for any golfer willing to put in the work. Order on Amazon, fill with old towels or bedsheets and swing to your hearts content. This little toy, along with the very keen eye and training from Taylor at @davidfritzgolf (and some much needed practice) is drastically improving my swing and made my game more enjoyable in a very short time. Trying to get to it every day for 10-20 minutes. See you on the tour! #practicemakesprogress #golfswing #sportspecifictraining #powerswing #fitover40 #personaltrainer #taylorismyhero

Great sequence with the landmine bar and a very cool attachment. So excited with Kevin’s progress since we started a few months ago. He always shows up with focus and true grit, and his strength and technique have made massive gains! #personaltrainer #virtualfitness #fitnessgoals #determinedtosucceed #fitnessjourney #personalfitnesstraining
