Stop for a second. Where is your tongue right now?
🌟 Did you know your tongue's resting position can impact your health?
Most of us don’t think about where our tongue is resting, but it’s more important than you might realize! If your tongue rests low in your mouth, it could be linked to issues like mouth breathing, sleep problems, and even TMJ pain. But don’t worry—proper tongue posture can be learned and can lead to better breathing, less tension, and even a more balanced facial structure.
Take a moment to check: is your tongue resting against the roof of your mouth? If not, it might be time to explore myofunctional therapy to help retrain it to the correct spot! 🌙
Check our this article for more information about the tongue and how it can help or hinder your daily life 😁
Happy last long weekend of the summer!
It's back to school, back to routines, and comfy fall sweater soon so enjoy these last 30°C days while we have them.
See you in the clinic on Tuesday!
We like to play with popsicle sticks here in the office! They are used for a TMJ Alignment treatment.
The sticks act as a spacer to hold the jaw open to the needed width while I apply the corrections to the jaw- into a position called Centric Relation, known as the Gelb 4-7 position in the dentistry world. While achieving Centric Relation was previously thought to be almost impossible, an Orthodontist by the name of Dr. Brenden Stack became world-renowned for his ability to find the Centric Relation position for his patients and taught at many conferences around the world. This Bowen Therapy Jaw Alignment technique was developed in conjunction with Dr Stack and Mr. Ron Phelan, an RMT and Bowen Therapist from Australia.
Why is that position important?? It is the most balanced position for the Jaw to sit in that does not impede proper jaw movement.
How many sticks are used?
Some people need 2 sticks, while others may need up to 5 - it just depends on how far the lower jaw is compressed up into the TMJ, and how much pressure is on the disc or the tissues behind it.
Why is it important to have your Jaw assessed? An improper Jaw placement can cause tremors that mimic Parkinson’s, Tourette’s symptoms, gait imbalances, neurological dysfunction, pelvis or neck problems, and Endocrine System hormone imbalances to name a few.
Are you having jaw pain? Let’s book an appointment now through my website. Book an Advanced TMJ & Spinal Corrections setting and we will see you soon!
Adventure isn’t just about thrilling experiences or exploring new places—it can also bring significant benefits to your health.
Here’s how diving into adventure can positively impact you:
🏔️ For Your Health:
Boosts Mental Health: Adventure often involves stepping out of your comfort zone, which can reduce stress and anxiety. The excitement and novelty of new experiences can elevate your mood and promote a sense of well-being.
🏔️Enhances Physical Fitness: Many adventures require physical activity, whether it's hiking, climbing, or swimming. Regular physical activity from these adventures can improve cardiovascular health, strength, and overall fitness.
🏔️Increases Resilience: Facing and overcoming challenges during adventures can build resilience and adaptability. This can help you better handle stress and setbacks in your everyday life.
🏔️Promotes Mindfulness: Being in a new and stimulating environment often encourages mindfulness and presence. This focus on the moment can enhance mental clarity and reduce mental clutter.
What do you do to add adventure and play into your weekly routine?
This is a picture from the top of the Mountain Coaster ride in Revelstoke, BC this summer.
Thank you so much to my amazing clients for sharing your wonderful testimonials and love for the work I do! Your support means the world to me.
Holding your little one in your hands for the first time brings on an overwhelming sense of love and joy but those first moments can often be also traumatic or stressful as well. 👣
Birth trauma can be as simple as an injury that occurs while the birthing process is happening, a fast delivery, or more severe with intense emotional factors as well. It is an overlooked factor in many of the health issues that are showing up in our chlidren as they grow. It can be from extended compression on the skull bones from forceps or a vacuum delivery, to the child having the umbilical cord around the neck and body that creates abnormal tension.
A difficult birth has been correlated to a variety of different things such as:
🍼 difficulty latching, nursing or breastfeeding
🍼sleep disorders
🍼reflux, colic and constipation
🍼speech, motor and social delays
🍼ADHD
🍼sensory issues
🍼torticollis
🍼emotional or behavioral delays
Did your little one have an assist or difficult birth and you’ve noticed a few things not quite right? Message me here or visit my website to book a pediatric therapy session.
Ever been told….“Most kids have these.”....or “They’ll grow out of it.”
We’ve all heard it but I’m here to remind you that just because it’s common doesn’t mean it’s normal!
Snoring, mouth breathing, and crowded teeth have all been normalized in today's society but what we might not realize is that they have an abundance of consequences later down the road.
Consequences like problems chewing and swallowing firmer foods, a narrow face and palate that could result in less room for teeth and the need for braces…
These are symptoms of something bigger happening in the body- and it’s usually jaw or neck tension, and improper tongue movement….
How can Bowen Therapy help with that?? I work on the tension patterns in the front of the neck, throat, and the underside of the lower jaw- where the base of the tongue sits.
If the jaw and the tongue can’t move properly, a dysfunctional breathing/swallow pattern starts. Orofascial Myofunctional Therapy is also a great therapy to get in conjunction with any type of mouth dysfunction.
If you notice any of these symptoms in your child, let’s connect and get them into the clinic for an assessment! Send me a message here or visit my website to learn more about my services.
Education and proactive measures are important!
*please note I do not treat a tongue tie restriction and will refer to a local dentist or lactation consultant if one is suspected.
Have a great weekend, enjoy the beautiful weather, and we'll see you on Tuesday!
Quick PEMF session while I write the next article for the magazine. I will have all of the articles I've written on my blog soon!
Do you read their magazine? What topic would you like to learn about next?
Taking good care of your body after Bowen can help to maximise its effects.
Are you:
Drinking enough water?
Allowing time between sessions for your body to integrate?
Not sitting for long periods of time (especially if your back is an issue)?
Moving around regularly?
Stretching?
What you do after your Bowen session can matter!
Make the most of your session after you leave the table with solid self-care.

See you soon!
PEMF session for the pup today 😕🐶
She's been limping with this crazy fluctuating weather and sometimes we forget just how old she is.
PEMF generates a magnetic field that makes motion straightaway and positively directly impacts these ions and membrane potential to stimulate them into action. The result is a rise in cellular communication and circulation, a decrease in inflammation and pain and resulting acceleration of healing. There aren't any side effects seen with the use of PEMF.
Magnetic therapies heal the dog's body by restoring effective circulation and eliminating inflammation. increased blood flow to a diseased part of the dog's body encourages a rise in nutrients to that location, speeding up the healing process. while magnetic therapies cannot cure all medical problems, they're an affordable, non-invasive, and safe choice to use in healing. (https://www.fit4dogsuk.com/post/pulse-electromagnetic-field-therapy)
Here's to hoping she feels better soon!
Let's talk concussions....
Completing the MOOC concussion course with all of the latest research on concussion care, and it makes me sad to think about the struggles myself and other athletes have when dealing with medical professionals who are NOT UP TO DATE in their understandings of how a concussion affects the brain and how to treat them.
As you can see from some of the slides I've shared, BASELINE TESTING is NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN OR ADOLESCENTS 🫣, and their area often lasting endocrinology (hormone) problems that REQUIRE BLOOD TESTS to monitor the effects over the year post injury. 🧠
Stay tuned for more.....

The Vagus Nerve is a key component of the Autonomic Nervous system (ANS) functioning properly.
A dysregulation of the ANS can cause:
🔺 heart palpitations,
🔺fainting,
🔺IBS and other digestive disorders,
🔺increase the amount of inflammation in the body,
🔺 lead to mental health problems like brain fog and memory issues, and
🔺sensory processing disorders to name a few.
And what is a key component to the Vagus Nerve functioning properly?? 🔺THE JAW & NECK 🔺

My favorite oils for stress and nervousness are Black Spruce, Elemi, Pink Grapefruit, and Rosewood. Blended together they can have a light green citrusy aroma or a slightly deeper woodsy smell depending on the amount of each oil used.
What is your favorite scent combination?
To be put simply, an anxiolytic refers to a medication or substance that reduces feelings of nervousness and anxiety. Anxiety is a natural human emotion but when it begins to affect daily activities and interaction with the outside world, we need to find relief. Ultimately, you want to pinpoint the triggers and alleviate this stress. To help manage our reactions to these stressors, we can diffuse certain essential oils in combination with regular exercise, meditation, and rest.
A short list of oils for diffusion as recommended by Gabriel Mojay in Salvatore Battaglia's Complete Guide to Aromatherapy 2nd edition:
Neroli - for those who struggle with confronting painful and disturbing emotions (shame, guilt, rage, resentment) https://naturesgift.com/product/neroli-10-dilution/
Lavender - for feelings of oppression and suffocation https://naturesgift.com/product/lavender-bulgarian/
Geranium - over-achievers who do not find time to cope https://naturesgift.com/product/geranium/
Rose - those who suffer fear of abandonment https://naturesgift.com/product/rose-absolute-bulgarian/
Ylang Ylang - restless minds, racing thoughts https://naturesgift.com/product/ylang-ylang-complete/
Jasmine - typical symptoms of depression (sadness, fatigue, lethargy) https://naturesgift.com/product/jasmine-grandiflora-absolute/
Vetiver - detachment, absent mindedness https://naturesgift.com/product/vetiver-madagascar/

Got a little soaker at home? Have you looked into these possible causes?
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and A Happy New Year to you all!
My favorite gift from patients so far this year ❤️
Have your house smell festive and help cleanse the air!
Does anyone else use simmer pots (also known as potpourri) in their house? I love mine 😍
Add the smells of the holidays in a natural way. Of course we know that artificial scents are not only dangerous but so unhealthy.
Try this Christmas Simmer Pot and take a deep breath!
ENJOy the Holidays!

Psst... your massage shouldn't cause you pain! Pain does not equal healing.
If your muscles are clenched, your massage therapist can't get to the root of the issue. It can actually cause more harm than good if you are fighting the treatment due to discomfort. Communicate with your practitioner if something hurts.
There are different types of massage and one is not better over another. Find the practice that works for you and ask your practitioner to adjust their pressure according to your likes and needs!
What do popsicle sticks and Bowen Therapy have to do with each other??
After a thorough analysis of the TMJ, its position in the joint itself, and the neck, I use popsicle sticks to hold the Jaw in the proper alignment in all 3 dimensions, then complete the corrections with it held in place.
Follow along to find out more in the next week!
Labour Day treatments 🤩

How allergies and an injury turned into a career......
I’ve had allergies my entire life. MY. WHOLE. LIFE. It started with dairy products as an infant, then progressed to cats, scents, coconut, and fish as I got older. Some are mild, some moderate, one is extreme.
Learning how to avoid common triggers isn’t always easy as a child, so taking allergy pills was a weekly occurrence. Trying to find a job avoiding these triggers was harder. Working in the public exposed me to perfumes and scented lotions causing headaches, ‘flu- like symptoms, and sinus infections.... so I got a job in an insulation packing plant where I could wear a face mask and/or respirator on every shift. It was hard work and being a petite female made it even harder but I was determined to work twice as hard to prove I was just as good as the guys....and developed a repetitive strain injury less than a month into the job.
I was working 12 hour shifts doing the same movements day after day. One morning I woke up and my ring finger on my left hand was tingling. It soon spread to my pinkie finger and then ring and pinkie on my right hand as well. I was referred to a doctor who said I had carpal tunnel, an ER doctor told me there was nothing wrong/that he could do, a chiropractor to fix my crooked neck and back posture, and a massage therapist to loosen up my arms. NONE of them did any type of nerve tests to see where the problem was coming from or help alleviate the now searing pain that was shooting down the back of my left arm from armpit to fingers. Then I was sent to a chiropractor who specialized in A.R.T. and soft tissue injuries....
After 1-3 treatments a week for 6 months the problem was GONE. It required stretching 4x daily, bi-weekly massage, and weekly chiro appointments to keep the scar tissue from coming back and my problem from returning. I decided I wanted to help people like that and enrolled in the massage therapy program at Medicine Hat College in 2002. We learned physiology, pathology, orthopedics, biomechanics, and I discovered my love of Anatomy. Classes included lumbar assessments, abdominal massage, pre- and post- natal and labour and delivery massage, TMJD (Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction) and MVA (Motor Vehicle Accident) treatments.... While there I was offered the chance to take an ‘Aromatherapy and the Therapeutic Uses of Essential Oils’ course as an add-on to my massage therapy training. “Essential oils can make your hands feel stronger and feel 3” deeper”. I was intrigued but skeptical since I was allergic to ‘scents’. It was here that I met a man who has since become my mentor in essential oils- Blaine Andrusek of Blaine Andrusek Phytotherapeutics based in Calgary, AB.
