SHUT IT DOWN FOR PALESTINE This morning, as Israel continues its relentless assault on civilians, schools and hospitals in the Gaza strip, hundreds of Montrealers have disrupted rush hour traffic on the Jacques-Cartier Bridge. In the face of the horrific, genocidal violence currently being inflicted upon the people of Gaza, and in solidarity with all the people of Palestine, we are putting an end to business as usual. We are demanding an immediate ceasefire, an end to the genocide currently being carried out against the people of Gaza, and an end to Canadian complicity in Israel’s occupation of Palestinian land. *** We all have a role to play in the struggle against genocide and apartheid. *** • WHERE: Jacques-Cartier Bridge, south-east of Parc Des Faubourgs, where de Lorimer and Papineau converge (close to metro Papineau). Since the escalation began on October 7, over 11,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 25,000 injured in Gaza. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced from their homes, and are currently living in tents as winter rains begin to fall. At the same time, attacks from settlers and Israeli soldiers have increased dramatically in the West Bank – over 185 Palestinians have been killed and 2000 injured. This latest round of violence is a continuation of Israel’s decades-long colonial occupation of Palestine, and its ambition to further dispossess the Palestinian people from their land. This is an absolute catastrophe, and all people of conscience must stand against it. From Tiohtià:ke (Montreal) to Palestine occupation is a crime! Join us and demand a free Palestine!
