This band amalgamates Jazz and Folk music and features Erika Chow on tenor, Katie Stewart on violin, Jancis Bautista on keys and Jamison Ko on drums.

Known me for a long while? (Or looked me up in a SOCAN songwriter database like a nerd?)

Maybe you know my full name, first middle last...

There is a tree called Thuja plicata.

It's better known as: Western Red Cedar.

This year, I've played mostly in a trio, and also a quintet, and a couple of other things...

But it's time to play in a project that's brand-new, with people I've never played with before, and showcase some music that's personal to me.

My name is William Ross Chernoff - WRC - so this is Western Red Cedar.

It’ll be the last time we play as the trio (me with Francis Henson and Carson Tworow) for a while, and it's a wonderful place with great food and atmosphere so we can't wait to see you there.

We're keeping this long weekend swinging with the William Chernoff Quintet tomorrow night.

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 3RD | 8PM

The William Chernoff Quintet plays original music by electric bassist Will Chernoff, merging hard bop and bossa nova with influences from Bill Frisell and Steve Swallow. Previously, Will released his debut album, Aim to Stay (“refreshingly accessible music” – All About Jazz), in 2020 and his FACTOR-funded second album, Maybe Eventually, in 2022.

With Thad Bailey-Mai – trumpet, Nebyu Yohannes – trombone, Madeleine Elkins – guitar, & Miles Wong – drums

Jul 12, 8pm -- the trio reunites for Brentwood Presbyterian Church's Jazz Evensong series, a place of great hospitality and conviviality in the scene.

There are many generous people in Vancouver jazz and Brian Fraser certainly is one of them.

Brian has welcomed us to make music at Brentwood for the first time. Come gather!

Jul 8, 12pm FREE -- we're on at Khatsahlano! Music + Art Festival to continue the vibes into July!

The trio will feature Francis Henson on guitar as always, and, in a special appearance, Karl DeJong subbing on drums for Carson Tworow.

Excited to play with Karl for the first time and take West 4th Avenue through a set of our different swingin' and shredding repertoire alike.

We're opening up the Maple Stage at noon!

Wed, Jun 28 @ 4pm FREE, Ocean Artworks Granville Island - during the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, for the first time ever, I am of two halves: the enthusiast and the musician!

That’s right, it’s my debut at the festival, as the William Chernoff Trio with Francis Henson 🎸 and Carson Tworow 🥁

We will play the music of our new album Maybe Eventually, some from my first album Aim to Stay, and even a standard or two.
